Mesopotam is a historic village and is known for the Orthodox church of St. Koll which is a 13th century building. The archaeological park of Finiq is located 8 km east of today's city of Saranda.

In ancient times the territory belonged to the kingdom of Epirus, while during the Byzantine period it was enlarged. In the ancient springs the fate of the city of Finiq is mentioned, especially during the Helene period, when Finiqi was also the capital of the League of Epirus. The end of the first Macedonian war was also signed in Finiq. During the visit to Finiq it is possible to see the ruins of an ancient temple, theater, some houses of Elena, Roman baths and a Byzantine church.
