What you can expect

  • First stop of the journey is the magnificent Lion of Amphipolis. The monument was originally located on the top of the Great Tomb at Amphipolis and at some time in the past was moved to its current location, several km. away from the Tomb site.

Next stop is the Archaeological Site of Philippi – Unesco World Heritage Site. The ancient city was found by Alexander's the Great father, where you shall visit the Basilica, the theatre, the Roman Forum, the cell where Apostle Paul was imprisoned but also the Octagon Church- the first Chirstian church of Europe.

Afterwards, you visit the city of Kavala, where for centuries Byzantines, Ottomans, Jews, merchants, tobacco workers, refugees and intellectuals mingled and prospered. You will see the tobacco warehouses and elegant neoclassical buildings recall the city’s glorious past. Then enjoy your lunch in its lively centre under the eye of the city’s castle or around the port.

Return to Thessaloniki at the afternoon.
