What you can expect

Begin your tour at the northwestern side of Cuenca with a visit to San Bartolome, a small town by the Andes Mountains with an unbeatable view of the valley of River Santa Bárbara. The town is famous for its crafty guitar-making artisans, and you get to observe the fascinating and intricate process of guitar construction.

Continue to Chordeleg, a town known around the country for its ceramic, gold, and silver jewelry, as well as fine filigree work made of gold and silver threads. Enjoy time to shop, interact with the artisans, and learn about their process of creating jewelry.

Move on to Gualaceo and visit 2 important markets known for unique handicrafts and colorful scenery. Visit a textile shop and see how backstrap and horizontal loom weaving works, and how a variety of woven products are made. Textile makers also demonstrate the Hispanic technique of ikat, used to make shawls and ponchos. Soon after, enjoy a hassle-free return trip to Cuenca.
