What you can expect
You get to visit the only temple in Japan that hosts many foreigners as practicing monks. Being able to interact and do activities with them without any language-barrier will allow you to truly learn about the daily life of a Zen Buddhist practitioner. This experience is for those looking to deepen their understanding of the religion in a very unique way.
At Sogenji you will get to partake in a wide variety of experiences, we will start with a tour of the temple and then you will get the chance to try Zazen which is a meditative discipline and the traditional Zen Buddhist way of seated meditation. You will also participate in the maintenance of the temple gardens and the hand-copying of ancient sutra texts.
All the while you will be able to interact with and ask questions of the monks.
