What you can expect

  • Begin your day with a convenient pickup from your hotel in Paro. Meet your local guide and private driver, then set off through the beautiful Paro countryside as the road begins to climb into the mountains. Keep your camera ready for traditional houses, forest landscapes, and changing views of the valley.

Travel along a winding mountain road through pine and fir forests, with opportunities for safe roadside photography stops where permitted. Enjoy the transition from green woodland to the rugged high-altitude landscape. The drive from Paro generally takes around 1.5–2 hours.

Arrive at Chele La Pass, approximately 3,988 meters above sea level. Photograph colorful prayer flags against dramatic mountain scenery, capture panoramic landscapes, and look for views of Mount Jomolhari and Jichu Drake when visibility permits. Enjoy time for portraits, creative compositions, and a short walk around the viewpoint if conditions are suitable.

Take additional photographs of the mountain ridges, forested slopes, prayer flags, and seasonal vegetation. Your guide can help identify scenic viewpoints and suggest compositions. Wildlife and seasonal flowers may be spotted.

Begin the scenic descent, with optional safe stops for valley and forest photography in daylight. You may arrange a lunch break at a local restaurant at your own expense.

Return to your hotel in Paro after a memorable mountain photography excursion, carrying home photographs of Bhutan’s spectacular Himalayan scenery.
