Step into a Parallel World Where the USSR Still Lives On
Travel with us beyond Moldova’s eastern border to Transnistria, a breakaway republic frozen in time. Though any country does not officially recognize it, Transnistria functions with its own government, flag, currency, and border control. It’s a place where Lenin statues still stand tall and the Soviet legacy remains untouched.
This guided tour begins with pickup at your hotel in Chișinău by your English-speaking guide and private car. After a scenic drive through the Moldovan countryside, you’ll cross the Dniester River—passport in hand—for your entry into this fascinating, unrecognized state
Bender Fortress
Our first stop is the Bender Fortress, a 16th-century Ottoman stronghold and one of the most picturesque landmarks in Transnistria. Walk through its massive stone walls and hear stories of Turkish rule, Russian military victories, and the surprising visit of Swedish King Charles XII, who once took refuge here.
️ Optional Lunch in Tiraspol
Enjoy a traditional lunch in Tiraspol, the quirky capital of Transnistria, where Soviet-style cafeterias and local restaurants offer nostalgic dishes in a unique setting. (Lunch cost not included)
️ Tiraspol City Tour – Back in the USSR
After lunch, continue with a full city tour of Tiraspol. Discover a city unlike any other in Europe, where time has stood still:
Statues of Lenin and Suvorov still dominate public squares
Soviet slogans, mosaics, and architectural grandeur line the streets
Visit the House of Soviets, war memorials, cultural palaces, and more
Learn how Transnistria operates with its own currency and institutions
Feel the atmosphere of a place where red stars, hammers, and sickles, and socialist murals are still part of daily life.
✅ Important to Know Before You Go:
Passport Required
Even though Transnistria isn’t officially a country, you will need your passport to cross the border and register entry. No visa is required for EU/US citizens.
Bring Cash
Credit cards are not widely accepted, and ATMs are rare. It’s recommended to bring cash in Moldovan Leu, Euros, or US Dollars. The local currency, the Transnistrian Ruble, is used inside the region and can be exchanged upon arrival.
