What you can expect

Experience Edinburgh’s most unforgettable viewpoint at its most powerful moment.

This is a guided sunset hike up Arthur’s Seat, carefully timed so you reach the summit as the sun sets over the city and the sky turns gold, pink, and deep blue.

Unlike standard daytime walks, this experience is built entirely around light, atmosphere, and timing—the three things that make Arthur’s Seat truly special.

Led by a qualified Mountain Leader, you’ll follow a scenic and quieter ascent route where possible, avoiding the busiest paths while still enjoying the best views along the way.

At the summit, you’ll have time to take in a full panoramic view of Edinburgh, the coastline, and surrounding hills as the city transitions into night.

After sunset, we descend in twilight using head torches if needed, adding a calm, atmospheric finish to the experience

Why this is the best sunset hike in Edinburgh:
-Timed specifically to reach the summit at sunset
-Small group experience for a more personal hike
-Led by a qualified Mountain Leader
-Quieter, more scenic route where possible
-Head torches provided for a safe twilight descent
-Perfect conditions for sunset photography

️ What you’ll experience
The ascent

We begin near Holyrood Park and gradually make our way up Arthur’s Seat, stopping at viewpoints and landmarks along the way. Your guide will share insights into the landscape, volcano history, and Edinburgh’s surroundings.

The sunset moment

We time the hike so you reach the summit as the sun begins to set.

This is the highlight:

Golden light over Edinburgh
Shadows stretching across the city
Views over the Firth of Forth and surrounding hills
A calm, elevated atmosphere above the city

The descent

After sunset, we descend at a relaxed pace. If needed, head torches are provided. The route feels completely different at this time—quieter, calmer, and more atmospheric.

Is this experience right for you?

This hike is ideal if you:

-Are comfortable walking uphill for around 45–60 minutes
-Enjoy nature, views, and photography

It is not suitable if you:
-Prefer flat or city-only walking tours
-Are looking for a very easy or non-walking experience
