Spend a full day in Alnwick with a return shuttle from Edinburgh. Travel south across the Scottish Borders into England and enjoy views of countryside and coastal scenery along the way. Arrive in Alnwick and explore at your own pace. Your main destination is Alnwick Castle, the second-largest inhabited castle in the UK and home to the Percy family, Dukes of Northumberland, for more than 700 years. The castle has featured prominently on screen, famously appearing as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter movies and as Brancaster Castle in Downton Abbey. Inside, you may choose to visit the historic state rooms, browse the Downton Abbey exhibition displaying costumes, props, and photography, or take part in themed activities such as broom-flying lessons. Time is also available to explore Alnwick Castle’s award-winning gardens, offering landscaped spaces, seasonal planting, and peaceful walking areas. You’ll also have the opportunity to wander the charming town of Alnwick, home to cafés, shops, and historic streets.
