Cheap and cheerful
Very friendly on phone although never seen the owner. There was no warm water and I felt cold overnight. Good location though but wouldn’t stay for any more than an overnight

A bit low rent and tired But this is most probably why it is a low cost. Had to ask for the reheating to be turned on and the beds were a bit tired.

Pictures very deceiving. Very out dated and tired. Friendly enough guy checked us in, gave advice about the area. If the nighly charge would be halved it would be about right.

It is in a rundown area , and the road and pavements are very dirty, although the owner of the property was very kind and helpful.

I was greeted with friendliness and helpfulness by the two people who care for the property. The town was much larger than I first imagined and am glad I stayed a second night so that I could wander the town on my second day.

Perfect for what we needed. Great location for the Ferry crossing. Not an issue with no breakfast now being offered as we were travelling early morning anyway. Owner very friendly and informative.

A hidden Gem.
What a little gem of a place. A very warm welcome received by the owner Sandy which is very important when you are a solo traveler. Yes it’s a basic hotel but the room was immaculately clean, warm, cosy and comfy. I had the best nights sleep. As a regular traveler to the area, I will be back for sure. Thank you Sandy for making me feel so welcome. Highly recommend this little hidden gem.

Quiet location within driving distance of Cairnryan port. Very comfortable room although the shower dial was very stiff to turn.

The hotel location is in a tired part of the town and this refects as your first impression. The pub doesn't open during the week and again looks tired. The accommodation doesn't reflect first impressions and is clean tidy and well presented and the host is very helpful and makes sure that you are comfortable. Stranraer needs investment from government to help it.

We are repeat visitors to the Thistle Inn. We make trips to Stranraer a few times each year for racing events with my son. This is no frills accommodation but is clean, comfy, a very short distance from the town and with the added bonus of being able to park right outside the chalet and being able to keep an eye on your vehicle. Sandy is always on the end of the phone if you need him. This was our fourth visit and wont be our last.

Despite me not phoning to say it would be after 10pm when i arrived they were prepared fir me. Room was chalet style but suited my needs. Just need details of local cafe for breakfast.

Ideal for a stopover like we had. Being able to park outside the door a real bonus to keep an eye on vehicles. Owner Sandy was really nice and happy to give recommendations on where to eat. Will stay again soon as we need to be back in the area later in the month. Not fancy or with frills just good old fashioned value for money.

It is a motel not a hotel. We were really pleased with what we found. Very clean. Good beds. Spotless toilet/shower facilities all working properly. Bought take-aways close by and ate in room.. Excellent for 1 / 2 nights stay.
