Perfect little cabin on the river!
This property is so charming! Cabin has a neat history and the quartz and mineral fireplace was beautiful! I had a group of ladies stay to celebrate my bday. There is an option to have people camp outside for a small fee if your party is bigger than what the cabin accommodates. We didn’t get to float bc it had rained so much beforehand but there are options to float right to the cabin and things to do in the area like Onondaga state park. The outside area is perfect for bbqing and hanging around the fire. The view of the river is magical at all times of the day. We had a great stay and loved the cabin! It was a cheaper option than some of the campground cabins in the area. Definitely recommend!

Cozy and relaxing
We loved our weekend stay in this cute, cozy cabin. We sat out by the firepit both nights having a few drinks. On our way in, we stopped in Steelville to get food for the weekend. (only about 10 minutes from the cabin) The singing butcher shop had so many amazing meats and cheeses. We picked up a porterhouse steak, summer sausage, smoked cheeses, farm-fresh eggs, and stuffed mushrooms. We then stopped at the General store and grabbed some wonderful coffee, sodas, and candy. :) There is also a Country Mart grocery store where we grabbed the rest of our essentials, as well as some beer and wine. We ate like kings the whole weekend. We brought our Kayaks with the idea of paddling upstream and then float with the current back to the cabin. The current was too strong to get very far so we called Susan to see if she had a solution. She came the next morning, met us at the cabin and we drove 5 miles into town with our truck and the Kayaks. She dropped us off on the river at a fantastic access point to take off from. We floated the river for about 3 hours. We ended the float at the cabin's boat ramp, and our car was there. AMAZING Trip! Highly recommend.

Slice of heaven
This property was perfect for what we needed. The cabin is almost 100 years old and outside of beauty you would never have known it was this old. Ee had everything we needed, to include a nice bottle of wine in the fridge. The beds were comfortable and the shower was HOT. Our 4 in our family all showered without having to let the water heater catch up. We did not use the outside space this trip but there was so much we could have done under different circumstances. I will warn you in case you go at night like we did. The road to this cabin does say private property and dead end at the beginning but proceed past that. We had a 28ft trailer with us so we were afraid of getting down and being wrong but thankfully it all worked out. We hope to return and float down to the cabin soon.

Stayed here to be close to 2 state parks. onodaga cave and merimac state parks. the property was at end of a drive. nice size property with easy access to river for fishing. very peaceful property. only one instance when someone dropped off a trailer with lawn tractor on it. definitely wasnt expecting someone else on property. no one else bothered us. enjoyed cabin and would definitely return.

Great St. Louis getaway...
It is a great place to unwind and enjoy the river, the silence, the birds, and the blue Herons! Great outdoor fireplace and outdoor stove for all our needs. The house had everything we needed and more! Great place, and only saw 2 people in a kayak on 1 of the days. Great spot for fishing and putting in your kayaks or canoe.

Very cozy little cabin right by the meramec river. We loved the sunset and the fact we still had cellular and internet service in such a remote area. The cabin was small but still had all the amenities we needed. Would definitely stay again.

Such detail and all the accommodations a person could ask for. We saw eagles, caught blue gill, bass and one ugly Northern Hogsucker! LOL! the cabin is the most charming cabin i have ever stayed at, in the best location!

Peaceful cabin by the river
Cute little cabin on a short gravel drive. It’s small I would recommend it for a couple or a couple and a small child. There’s a double bed a couch a loveseat and a recliner. It’s essentially one room so if you’re bringing kids with you there will be no romance. The cabin itself is adorable built in 1935 by three guys who wanted to get away from it all and play cards. Their initials and the date are carved into the (not usable) fireplace. There’s a table and chairs on a patio outside which overlooks the river at the back of the property. There are a couple of other houses on the drive but we didn’t see a single other person while we were there. Sitting on the patio looking out over the river was beyond peaceful. The cabin was well stocked with more paper towels toilet paper and garbage bags than we’d use in a month. Dishes and pans were more than adequate for ordinary meal preparation. Tubing companies are within easy reach and the state parks in the area are gorgeous. There are no onerous rules just hang up your wet towels and take your trash out to the trash can. We found three very tiny snakes and a small lizard in our week there. We helped them outside with our good wishes and frankly I found them a great added feature of the house! But if nature freaks you out that up close maybe you want a hotel. For me it was 10 out of 10 and I definitely plan to return!

Beautiful, peaceful !
It's exactly as they described.On a dead end road, open area,very scheduled. A absolute slice of heaven. Susan, our host was very accommodating, friendly and quick to respond to any questions. I go through VRBO for all my vacation rentals. She is the best host I've had the pleasure of dealing with. We had a great time getting back to nature, sitting outside with my coffee in the morning watching my grandson (10) off the game system and outside playing ( we live in a three story apartment building, not much to do or see). If you're an early bird, you may catch a glance of turkeys coming through. I loved it there, didn't want to leave. Thank you Susan, for opening up such a wonderful and affordable place for people to come and enjoy. I will be back!

Summer Reset
We enjoyed this sweet cabin by the river for three nights. it was so clean and had all the amenities we needed. We were able to fish along the river just a short walk away and the host was very accommodating with shuttle rides so we could float the river in our kayaks. We enjoyed the town of Steelville and went into Cuba as well. We played washers in the lawn, made most meals at the cabin and didn't want to leave. It was great!

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights from 6/22-25. Completely secluded, country property right on the river. Host was very responsive the 1 time we had a question. We didn't do any kayaking or floating, but if you did you would be able to get out right at the property. Great and relaxing stay!

Peaceful, secluded and therapeutic
My husband and I were looking for a cabin for a weekend getaway, ideally one that was pet friendly and within a few hours driving distance from Kansas City -- Walker Ford Cabin was just what we had in mind. This 1930s built cabin is cozy and includes most all the comforts of home. Located at the end of a private drive, we encountered only one other vehicle during our entire visit. This property sits on the Meramec River. During our stay we enjoyed scenic views of the river, saw turtles bathing in the afternoon sun, and heard frogs and whippoorwills as daylight turned to nightfall. During the day we did some bird watching and tried our luck at fishing as well. Since we brought our two dogs we were unable to take in some of the local attractions. This cabin includes all the necessary amenities of home, so all one needs are clothes, toiletries and food/drink. Selfishly, we'd prefer to keep this place a secret, all to ourselves, but the Walker Ford Cabin and property should be enjoyed by as many people as is possible - it's that nice. We highly recommend. We are already taking about a return visit in the Fall. Thanks to our host, Susan Burch, for an amazing experience.

This place is amazing. No one around! AWESOME slab on river to hang out on! Our Puppy LOVED it here. Those windows facing river are great! It's old and rustic and deservingly so. we beat the holiday crowd and it was sooooo QUIET!!!!!! We will be back, Now it's off to 3 Cardinal games!

We enjoyed a great stay at the cabin! We were able to bring our dog and check out the hiking trails in the area, along with some of the caves (Onondaga Cave was spectacular!). We enjoyed fires each night, along with watching the river from the back room of the cabin. Great little place to get away from the city!

We would definitely stay here again. Everything was as described in the description of the property. It was spotlessly clean. The location on the river is beautiful and private. Steelville is a nice little town with a fabulous butcher shop on the main street which should not be missed. Highly recommend!

My wife and I enjoyed the quiet cabin by the little river. Having our coffee in the morning as the sun came up over the field was certainly a highlight. Would love to come back when it's a little warmer, but overall the town was nice and the getaway was refreshing. Susan is a great host and the cabin has lots of charm.

Home base for multiple adventures
This is a tidy, cozy riverside cabin perfectly suited as home base for our forays into awesome activity primarily fishing the Meramec River but also exploring Onondaga Cave system just east. The river experience was super cool and our run was from Birds Nest access to the cabin itself. We have our own kayaks so we were not tethered to the local float and canoe vendors. Susan recommended this stretch and whilst we were looking at upstream sections, this one was the right answer for first timer in the area. The property is very rural and is ideal to get proper fresh air in the the lungs and expunge the poisons of the city. Access to the cabin was super easy and our host was very communicative regarding local sites and places to chow. I love the beauty of central Missouri and we have only started in exploring the upper Meramec river. So we'll be back in spring to catch and release more bass and maybe even some trout if we get upstream enough. Fall is a great time to go with the trees ablaze with color. Get here!
