Santa Fe Opera

Listen to the enchanting sounds of classic opera in an open-air theater with views of the Jemez Mountains, the sunset and the stars.

The Santa Fe Opera is a majestic open-air venue hosting concerts and festivals in the summer season. The main theater is a marvel of innovative design that enhances the acoustics and offers a view of the night sky and the Jemez Mountains. The excellent vista generates an absorbing atmosphere alongside lovely music and fine acting. The program features a range of breakthrough operatic acts and reliable classics.

Attend a moonlit production during the months of June, July and August. Purchase one-off tickets or various types of package deals. The operas performed vary from year to year. The company also prides itself on producing lesser-known works. Relish the electric atmosphere created by the visible stars above and the talented players on stage.

A digital screen provides English translation for the foreign-language operas. Attend the Prelude Talks in the three-story Stieren Orchestra Hall to learn about a show before you see it. Stroll through the scenic grounds of the 10-acre (4-hectare) campus, complete with a swimming pool, benches and gardens.

Admire the design of the Crosby Theater, which has a seating capacity of over 2,000. Its sweeping roof enhances acoustics and collects rainwater, which is used to maintain the opera’s campus.

Take a backstage tour of the opera house with its knowledgeable and passionate docents. Marvel at the sunset alongside enchanting music in the first acts of a show. Purchase posters, works of art and memorabilia at the gift shop.

The opera house has offered summer performances annually since 1957. There is a large parking lot with many spaces.

The Santa Fe Opera is located 7.5 miles (12 kilometers) north of the city. Take the New Mexico Rail Runner directly from South Capitol Station. The journey should take around 20 minutes. Nearby attractions include the Tesuque Flea Market and Tesuque Glassworks.

Go a little early (1.5 to 2 hours), back into first parking spaces on the right, lift your tailgate for a nice shaded area behind your vehicle for a delightful tailgate!
