Great time with family

Our trip to Miami Beach lasted about 5 days. Our time at the Carmela was an overall great stay. It was a large enough apartment for our family of 5 (though we probably could have used another bathroom). It was clean and comfortable. We were able to find it easily and the instructions to checking in and out couldn't have been any easier. We had enough towels and the kitchen was well stocked with the basics. Other needs were easily met at the CVS, conveniently situated at the end of the street. The beach (where we spent alot of time) could be accessed by the public the next block over. Some things to consider: 1) the parking is challenging on the budget and time if you aren't willing to spend $45+ daily. 2) our apartment was right on street level and very close to the apartment building nearby so it makes for views that arent the best. Again the stay was great and were able to overcome even the challenges! Thank you Carmela by Sextant.

Ok but not great

The unit looked as advertised but we couldn't get in because the email with door instructions was not sent from VRBO but in a business email from Sextant. Granted after trying to reach someone while standing outside, I found the email and got in. The unit is on the very first floor and basically in the middle of the entry lobby so EVERY single person that walks into this building passes by your door especially since the "hotel concierge" who is on on a tv screen mounted on the wall in front of our unit, interacts with all the guests walking in. We bought groceries for our meals over the next few days only to realize the refrigerator was "turned off". After turning on fridge and waiting several hours it started to cool our groceries. I finally got to sit down in the living room to watch some tv only to find a giant dead (thankfully) on its back, roach. Otherwise the beds were comfy, we had plenty of towels, a nice kitchen with all necessities like utensils pots microwave coffee maker sugar creamer etc. Price of the stay was reasonable but only about $200 total less than the Fountainbleau. I just wish the unit was in a quieter location of the building with maybe some double paned window so that the street noise (police cars, ambulances, cars without exhaust) is less noticeable.

Management problems

When we arrived, we noticed some problems:* The room was very cold. Someone had set the a/c to 64F. There was a thermostat mounted on the wall, but it took us a long time to figure out that the setting wouldn't change unless we removed the control from the wall and pointed it at the a/c unit above the couch. There were no instructions for this -- we had to figure it out ourselves.* There was an obvious coffee stain on the top blanket of one of the beds. I called first thing in the morning, but when nothing was done by mid afternoon, I had to flag down a maintenance person and then make a call to management to get them to authorize the guy to go ahead and change the sheets.* The toilet had a leak, making it turn on to refill about once a minute (which could be heard throughout the small suite, except when the bathroom door was closed). I mentioned this on both of the above calls to management, but it still hadn't been fixed by the end of our 3-night stay.* No soundproofing. Traffic noises and high winds outside could easily be heard inside.* The windows were dirtyApart from the above, things were in pretty good condition, and the beds were comfortable.
