The property is great. There were others in the adjacent house. Sharing the yard/pool was no problem. The house is well taken care of (minus the grill), as is the back yard. The living room also only had one couch, not the 3 indicated in the picture.
The previous review of the bathroom only having a curtain, and not a permanent partition between the two bathrooms is still accurate, despite the owner saying in a March review response, he would correct this. Not a problem for my men’s hockey team, some however would find this unsettling. We selected assuming that had been remedied.
The stay was honestly uneventful, until the last night. I walked into my room to find the ceiling leaking. I immediately messaged the owner. Assuming it was the AC (set at 70, while it was 97-99 degrees out during the weekend), I pushed the AC up to 74, at his request. I let the owner know this looked like it was going to be a problem.
During the night I was in contact with the owner via text/app. The owner called me at 2:30a and asked me to turn the air off (it was still 85 out). He was having an emergency tech come out to look in the morning.
At 4:45 was awakened to a flood of water pelting me from the ceiling. The ceiling started to give way and fell. I got up and pushed the bed out of the way to keep it from getting more wet. About 10 min later the ceiling gave way.
Tech said the primary and the back up drain lines are clogged on the AC unit. We ask, “was there anything we did that would have caused this?” He said no, and said you can’t win with both clogged. The owner admitted the prior group noted the AC, and he had a tech out to look at it after their stay and said to the team, “I guess this is what I get for not following up.”
I asked him if he would refund our money, and fees, for the 1 night, and then it started a 25 day back and forth. We lost the use of two bedrooms based on the damage, and the adjacent bedroom next door, as that ceiling was suspect. He stated, we were still at fault because we noted we had the AC at 70 before we left, and it was at 74 at check in. No house rule indicates you may not adjust the AC below 74. Adjusting the AC down for 3 prior nights became the “last straw”
It’s a great property, if you can get past the bathroom and sharing the back yard. Did offer 1 night refund then rescinded when pressed for 1 night taxes & fees. The owner’s behavior is reprehensible. We won’t be back. Don’t recommend this host.
