Magnificent fjords dazzle and mountains rise high in the astonishingly beautiful UNESCO-listed landscape where this village is located.

Geiranger is a pretty village located at the tip of the Geirangerfjord. The dramatic beauty of the fjord, renowned for its striking bright blue color, draws visitors from all over Norway and far beyond. It regularly features on lists of the world’s most impressive natural beauty spots. Explore this beautiful, UNESCO-listed area, dotted with forests, mountains and waterfalls, using this friendly little settlement as a base.

Look up at the towering peaks that make up this unique landscape and reflect upon the millions of years of changing climates that have shaped them. The distinctive fjords that slice into the mountains are the result of several different ice ages, each one cutting up the rocks a little bit more.

Take just one look at any of the waterfalls that crash down the rock faces and you will be awed by the beauty of this place. The waterfalls have romantic names, such as Friaren (the Suitor), De syv søstrene (the Seven Sisters) and Brudesløret (the Bridal Veil). Take in panoramic views of the fjord and waterfalls from Geiranger Skywalk or the Fossevandring viewing platform.

Hike around part of the fjord or take to the water in a kayak or fishing boat to see it from a different angle. In the summer, consider camping on the shore. When the weather is warm enough, you can even start each day with a dip in the cool blue waters.

Afterward, refresh yourself with a drink at the Geiranger Brewery. Fill up on the hearty dishes made from local ingredients served up in any of the local restaurants. Other attractions in the village itself include a picturesque white church, the Geiranger Kirke, and a museum of classic cars called the Veteranbilgarasje.

One way to get to Geiranger is to fly into Ørsta-Volda Airport and then drive for around 2 hours 40 minutes to reach the village. If you are coming from further north in the country, however, try to fit the breathtaking Trollstigen mountain road into your journey. Be dazzled by jaw-droppingly beautiful views as you follow this snaking route.
