The hotel has a reasonable location within the city. Though we didn't make it in time for the Gion festival, it's location makes it a prime spot if you're in to watching cultural activities like that. The staff are very friendly, and they know enough English to answer any basic questions you may have. The in-house breakfast comes at an additional cost and you need to reserve it the night before, but it's quite good albeit a little pricey (just make up for it with the bottomless rice). The rooms have the basic necessities, but take note that there is no refrigerator, so you have to either ask to store stuff in the staff fridge (which is a bit pushy, even for travelers). There is no private basin, either, so you need to brush your teeth or wash your face in a communal area. The padding of the rooms is quite poor, so you can sometimes hear people on the other side if they're being rowdy. Overall, it was a rather pleasant experience, pretty much what you'd expect for the price you're paying.
