About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Stardust Corral - 1920's Adobe Home in Marathon TX - Gateway to Big Bend NP!

Welcome home to the Stardust Corral. This Wonderfully updated home is located in Marathon, Texas - the gateway to Big Bend National Park. The 1920's adobe home has been lovingly restored as a West Texas retreat with modern amenities.

2 Bedrooms / 1 Bathrooms / Horse Corral.

With open roads leading to breathtaking mountain landscapes and endless peace and solitude, Marathon is the perfect place to unwind for a calming escape. Best of all, the high desert climate means that warm and sun-kissed days drift into cool nights enjoyed under a blanket of stars.

At the Stardust Corral, you'll enjoy unobstructed views of the Del Norte-Santiago range to the west and south and magnificent west Texas sunsets. From the back patio, you're looking west into the setting sun right at the Del Norte-Santiago range, including Cathedral Mountain and Elephant Mountain. The Glass Mountains are visible to the north.

This thoughtfully designed, unique retreat is the perfect launchpad for visiting Big Bend National Park, Marfa, Terlingua, Alpine, and Fort Davis.

The home is decorated and furnished to be a vacation rental and is all on one level with a total of 1,350-square feet.

In the kitchen you'll find all the comforts of home. From updated appliances to dinnerware, flatware and glassware to an array of gadgets & gizmos you'll need to whip up something special. You'll also find your morning wake up cure in the kitchen with a Keurig-brand coffee maker stocked with all the fixings!

The home does not have WiFi nor television (that's not why you come here). What it lacks in digital entertainment it makes up for with a horse corral (yes, there is a 1-acre fenced horse corral for your use). It's a real treat to watch the horses from the backyard while the sun sets over the mountains.

For your convenience, there is a laundry area with a full sized washer & dryer, laundry & cleaning supplies.

Your non-aggressive dogs are welcome at the Stardust Corral. An additional charge of $125 per dog per stay is required for guests that would like to bring dogs. Dogs should have a kennel or crate if they are left alone in the home. The backyard is fully fenced for them also.

Guests have full access to all rooms of the home and property. There is one owners closet with our personal items that we keep locked from guests.

***One of the quirks of the house, which dates back to the 1920's but has been expanded several times, is that the only bathroom is located in one of the bedrooms. This means that guests in the other bedroom will need to walk through the master bedroom in order to get to the bathroom.***

Also noteworthy is that we are on a rural power grid. That means that we experience the occasional power cut when storms are in the larger region or at the peak of the day during summer months. Rest assured, it has always turned back on within a couple of hours. If you use medical equipment please keep this in mind and have a back up power source.

We have a strict NO SMOKING policy in this home. You are welcome to smoke outside, but please be extremely careful about wildfire risk.

West Texas is a wild place. Our neighbors include horses, cattle, and goats. But you really need to be aware of the wild animals such as deer, javelina, skunks, rattle snakes, and fox. PLEASE EXERCISE CAUTION AND GOOD SENSE when it comes to livestock and wild animals. Please watch your children and know that wild animals are wild animals. If your kids or dogs will be playing outside, please watch out for snakes, especially on warm sunny days in the fall and winter. You have been warned! Having said that, it’s a fascinating symphony of wildlife to watch.

You are welcome to use the fire pit in the back yard - if there is NO wind and NO BURN BAN for Brewster County - and only after you have examined your conscience and have determined you do know what you are doing. City slickers without experience building and managing a fire should leave the fire pit alone. Please DO NOT use PAPER to get it started as it'll fly around and could spark a fire in the surrounding brush. There is a hose bib and water hose just south of the house that you can use to douse the fire before bed. Please remember you are visiting the desert and it will burn very quickly.

The home and property is available for commercial use at a special rate - please contact us prior to booking if you'd like to use the home for photo or video shoots or commercial events.

Nice little stay
Everything was easy with this location. The house is in great shape and has everything you need supply-wise. Great proximity to Alpine & Big Bend! The only thing to be aware of is 1 bathroom. For 3 of us, that was no big deal. But might be tough for larger families. Will, the host, was super informative and its a place we'd definitely stay again.

Big Bend National Park Visit
Spacious living room, comfortable furniture. Large dining room table-great for spreading Big Bend maps out for hiking options. Big bedrooms, comfortable beds. Bright bathroom, shower. Liked tile throughout home. Most of day spent at park. Wonderful to wake early before dawn to sit outside with a cup of coffee to gaze at the stars. Stayed 3 nights.

We Had the Best Place You Can Stay in Marathon!!!!
We loved our stay at the Stardust Corral! Even the only restroom being access through the master bedroom was not a problem. Just best if you know the person(s) you are staying with :) The horse corral just past the backyard was an extra treat. The house was beautiful, comfortable (the beds!) and well equipped for a visitor from out of town. Even had thick bathrobes for your use after a great shower. So many nice touches throughout the house. Lots of room to move around and relax! The front porch was so nice for evenings and stargazing. Hope to have an opportunity to stay there again sometime. Definitely plan at trip to Marathon and to the Stardust Corral if you can!

Great house
It was a great space and convenient location as we were leaving Big Bend and heading east. If you want to access the north and east side of the park, it works but still a little long. If you want the west side, it’s a doozy of a ride (at least 1-1/2 hours). The house is great though, with easy cleanup and top-notch amenities.

As advertised and more!
We had a great stay here. The place was amazing, and the location was great too. The kids discovered the retro style record player and had to explain what records are and how they work. Made me feel old, but it a fun way! Great place to stay if you're heading into Big Bend, which is what we were doing.

Showing Europeans West Texas
The house is very neat and was perfect for our overnight stay to see Marathon. We really enjoyed playing the albums on the record player! The only bath being in one bedroom could be a little awkward if you aren't with close friends, but we didn't mind.
