Our well-appointed cottage is located on a five-acre property that fronts onto the beautiful Englishman River. Situated on a bluff above the river our large deck offers our guests a view of the river. From this high deck our guests view the river through a forest of lush ferns and evergreens. A hiking trail from the cottage takes guests to the Englishman River. Minutes from the cottage hikers are able to access a trail that enter a Nature Trust Park where you can enjoy beautiful vistas, small waterfalls and clean clear pools to swim. The Nature Trust Park hike will come out at Top Bridge Regional Park with its many unusual pot holes and a beautiful suspension bridge. This park can be accessed from a hike from our cottage or from Parksville as well. There is a parking lot if you arrive by car.
Parksville is mid island on Vancouver Island. From the picturesque seaside town of Parksville it takes about 20 minutes to arrive at Hobos Pond. It is a scenic drive through farms and fields to arrive at Hobos Pond Get Away. Many residents in this area have small horse farms.
The Hobo cottage is on five acres and shares the space with the main house. There is enough distance between dwellings to ensure privacy.
Guests can visit Parksville and Qualicum Beach where art galleries, quaint shops and restaurants abound.
The weather here in this area is mild and sometimes quite hot during the summer and fall seasons. Spring and fall can be a bit rainy.
Quick drives get guests to many delightful places on the mid island. Visit French Creek Marina. Guests can see the large fishing vessels who still ply the waters off our island. The French Creek Pub is a good place for Fish and Chips. At the end of the pier you can buy fresh seafood. A quick trip to Goats on the Roof Market in Coombs is vibrant with tourists from all over the world. Here you can enjoy restaurants, big ice cream cones and a market with fresh fruit, vegetables and gifts. Real goats live on the roof top of the Market. Cuckoos Restaurant located at the Goats on the Roof Market site is a very beautiful place to enjoy good food within an elegant, natural and beautiful setting.
Gluten free guests can get GF goodies from a bakery in Qualicum. Qualicum Beach is such a beautiful little town and a drive along the ocean is a great place to park and enjoy a safe seawall for a good walk. Many seals pop their heads out of the water to say hello to walkers!
Guests who like to prepare their own food in our fully functional cottage kitchen can visit the Saturday morning Errington Market, a local farmers market with a rich selection of locally grown veggies as well as locally handcrafted gifts. This market is about an 8-minute drive from our cottage. Also nearby is the Unicorn farm market that offers delicious local meat and sausages, products sourced from local farmers.
During the summer months enjoy live music and concerts by the sea in the seaside park in downtown Parksville.
Explore Nanoose. Turn at the Petro Can gas station on the Island Highway to enjoy a drive through Fairwinds and Nanoose. Beautiful homes dot the rugged old coastal highway. A marina and an upscale restaurant are open most days during the summer season. This beautiful Marina is a safe harbour for leisure craft. The Fairwinds Golf course encourages guests to play golf. We strongly encourage our Hobo guests to visit Moorecroft Park Seaside Park located in the Nanoose area. It is a very great place to enjoy a picnic in a stunningly beautiful ocean side park. It has pathways that are safe for seniors and youngsters alike!
For guests who don't hike or swim and just want to relax at our cottage can enjoy our large very private deck. It is a good place to hang out and enjoy a barbecue. This is a peaceful and relaxing place to unwind from the bustle of city life. It is private enough for yoga, star gazing during warm weather or put up an easel and paint a picture. You can barbecue that fish you bought or caught at French Creek!
Day trips include favourite destinations such as a drive to Tofino on the West Coast or drive to Port Alberni for fish and chips at the main Wharf. Day trips to the seaside towns on the East side of the island Comox and Campbell River along the old highway are worth taking the time to visit. And you might have time to go to Quadra Island. This is a ten-minute ferry trip leaving from the Quay in Campbell River. On Quadra Island have a beer and or lunch at the very old pub in Heriot Bay.
Or take day trips to some of the outer islands like Denman and/or Hornby Island. Beware of the ferry schedule. Make sure you know when the last ferries leave the island. You need to coordinate Hornby Island ferries and the Denman Island ferry to ensure you make the last ferry off of Denman to Vancouver Island. Or you will have to spend the night on Denman. It happened to us!
A five-minute car trip from our cottage takes guests to the beautiful Englishman River Falls Provincial Park with its glorious waterfall and bridges and easy hiking trails. There are places to dive into deep, green pools and some shallow pools for children to swim.
Hobos Pond cottage can host four and/or six guests comfortably. Ask the hosts if you wish to add additional guests.

Hobo's Pond is a beautiful, serene location, surrounded by nature and a perfect place for us to get away from the city. The cabin is well appointed and has almost everything one would need. Marlene and Harvey were responsive and communicated promptly with us, and available if we had any questions.

Me, my spouse, and our dogs stayed at Hobos Pond and I can’t say enough great things about Marlene and Harvey, the cabin, the area, and our stay. Marlene and Harvey are so kind and lovely. While their home is on the property, they allowed our stay to be so private. They have five acres of land which meant tons of room for the dogs to play and the cabin was a short walk to Englishman’s River Park.
The cabin was so clean when we got there, and was such a comfortable place for us to be. We enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely stay there again!!
Thank yo, Marlene and Harvey!! It was so great meeting you and for being able to stay at Hobos Pond!!

What a wonderful place to stay! Very quiet, lots of room, and next to a gin-clear river. What more could you want. Parksville is a close drive with lots to see and do. Some great local attractions such as the wildlife recovery centre in Errington.
The hosts are salt of the earth kind of people. Very welcoming. We are missing our stay already and will be back.

The property is magnificent- quiet, and very private. The river, a short walk away is equally magical and clean. The beach is just a 20 minute drive. The farmer’s market on Saturdays is just down the road.
The house is very comfortable and spacious. Great bbq and space to entertain in.
The owners/ hosts are such nice people and nearby to help with anything if necessary.
We love staying here with our extended family and look forward to each return visit.

Rare to find such a perfect cottage in peace, silence, pure air. Ravens calling, river flowing, owls hooting, rabbits grazing, deer roaming. Too good to be true.....nope! Deeply nourishing, thank you Marlene and Harvey.

Hobos Pond is the loveliest property, if you want majestic scenery, tranquility, wildlife, and hosts that go above and beyond, this is the place.
Harvey and Marlene are the most wonderful people! They respect your privacy but are always available to chat, laugh, or to make your stay memorable. The cabin is well stocked and attention to everything one might need. Close to Parksville for groceries and restaurants. How grateful I feel to have found a little slice of nirvana!
Thank you Harvey and Marlene!

An absolute gem, as are the owners of Hobo's pond. Upon arrival we were greeted by Marlene and Harvey, they are absolutely the best.
The rental itself is extremely well outfitted and a person doesn't need to bring anything but a change of clothes. Most of our meals were enjoyed on the spacious deck, and most of our time was spent there as well.
The bed we slept on was extremely comfortable, unfortunately there was only two of us and the other beds were unused.
A lot of our time was spent lazing in the Englishman River which is just down from the cabin. A beautiful setting all around. Peaceful at night and no worries of street lights shining in your eyes. A star gazers delight!
This is one of our favorite rentals to date. The cabin combined with the hospitality extended by Marlene and Harvey put it over the top!

Another fabulous stay at Hobos Pond. We never wanted to leave. This is such a beautiful spot. Large acreage owned by the most lovely couple. Always total privacy to make you feel at home. Lots of birds, bunnies and others visit this country oasis. The deck overlooks Englishman River with the falls close by with abundant trails. The cottage has everything you need. The kitchen is fully equipped for the cook. About a 12 minute drive to shopping and highway connection for all beautiful Vancouver Island has to offer. Large old growth trees, beautiful blooming plants, fragrant roses and herbs, the list could go on. We will always want to return to this spot even after renting several other places over the years on the island. Thanks to Marlene and Harvey for another remarkable stay. Don’t hesitant a second to book!

We have renamed Hobo's Pond "Neverland". It is the most magical place. The property has so much to enjoy. Not too much to add to the other five star reviews except we never want to leave. We are packing up to depart in a few days with a heavy heart. The peace and tranquility of this place has been so healing after a very long stretch of challenges for our family. The location is close enough to amenities yet you feel far from reality, in a very good way. The birds, the river music and bunnies are all so lovely. Especially like the fact that you can venture down the hill to a magical winding path to the Englishman River with its pure and clear water. We swam in the pools many times. The very private deck overlooking gigantic ferns and gorgeous trees was truly breathtaking. The accommodation lacks for nothing, including air conditioning when needed. Marlene and Harvey are a treat and the most gracious people. They have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and easy. We thank them so very much for all their efforts and the privacy we had while we relaxed and enjoyed their amazingly beautiful property. We cannot wait to return. P.S. Genie thanks them too for putting up with the fact that she felt everywhere was her property and her frequent visits to say hello :) Do not hesitate a second to book this fabulous hidden gem!

We had a wonderful time at Hobo's Pond. Harvey and Marlene were lovely, and we had a nice chat with them upon arriving.
The area is remote but easily accessible, and the property is lovely and full of life. The cabin itself was exactly what we were looking for: small and cozy, but with all the amenities.
