Housekeeping not up to par, dusty, bathroom floor not mopped, ancient upholstery in room and public area lumpy, felt springs, not comfortable. Staff was pleasant and helpful. The B&B does not include breakfast! Breakfast and dining pricey and exotic, so not used. We are not walkers, but area very walkable. Knowledge of off season closures a problem.

Typical historical bed and breakfast - our room was large and the bed was comfortable. Appreciated the extras like bottled water and a log for the fireplace. The decor was period appropriate and well done but the room would benefit from a refresh of things like the shower and the carpet, especially at this price point.

Quiet and safe area. Beautiful old home. The furnishings were quit old but in excellent condition. The home was original, nothing in the architecture was compromised.

Stay was overall good, but there was not enough off-street parking for everyone and Bennington does not allow overnight street parking in the winter.

Thank you for your visit and the review. We apologize for the issue with the street parking. This was the first time that the town started giving tickets. It was only because we had a storm that evening, and they needed to plow. Normally, it's not an issue. We have started informing our guests if there is a winter storm warning where to park

Charming Inn with jacuzzi
Beautiful inn in Bennington VT. Gracious host/ innkeeper made sure we were well taken care of and met our every need. Lovely breakfast in their formal dining room. We even celebrated the New Year with the owner and friends with fondue and drinks in the parlor. Old fashion inn with modern amenities including jacuzzi n coffee maker. We will be back!

The house was built in 1887, so it is old with lots of character. The floors and stairs creak, but for us, that adds to the experience. The decor is original to the time period. We were lucky enough to be here while an amazing pianist played for the evening. Beautiful

The Inn is beautiful and the room we were given (Jim Dandy Suite) was very nice but the bathroom for that room is terrible! The sink had a large crack and the drain stopper didn’t work. The stand-alone shower was very very small & the shower head was mostly clogged so the water didn’t flow thru well. The toilet was so low to the floor that you need to grab onto the nearest door frame to pull yourself up off of the toilet seat. And the sink and counter were also very low. I’m 5’8” and had to bend very far to use the sink and toilet. And the toilet tank was loose and moved a few inches left and right as if it were not even attached. All in all I would give the Inn and room a 9/10 but the room’s bathroom facilities a 1/10. It really was hard to use the toilet, shower and sink.

Regrettably, we acknowledge that the current sink did not meet your expectations, and we want to assure you that we plan to replace it during the upcoming low season. Additionally, our showerhead features manual adjustment capabilities to modify the flow, and upon investigation, it is working as intended.It has come to our attention that the height of our standard toilets is on the lower end at 15 inches, whereas the typical range is typically between 15 and 16 inches. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and assure you that we will opt for a larger size when the time comes for replacement. Furthermore, we observed that the screws on the bottom had loosened, and our plumber will promptly address this issue.Regarding the Vanity Counter, we acknowledge that its current height of 31 inches is below the standard range of 32 to 36 inches. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by this deviation. In response, we are taking steps to replace the cracked sink and will make efforts to raise the counter by a couple of inches. Your feedback is valuable to us, and we are committed to making these improvements for a better guest experience.

It was a historic beautiful property! The room was spacious and nice! The greeter lady was nice and accommodating and she gave us a tour of a property. Inside of the room there were nice touches all throughout like complementary nice glass water bottles and toiletries. It's location was very convenient in a walking distance to the shops and restaurants. The breakfast was very good and it was served promptly. We would recommend this place to our friends.

Spectacular house!
The house was spectacular! Built in the late 1800’s. Antique furniture throughout but still had an adequate number of plugs to charge our electronics. Breakfast consisted of waffles with mixed fruit on top. Delicious! Would definitely stay here again.

This Victorian style B & B house was a nice, quiet, authentic experience as we visited Bennington. As a couple, we enjoyed one of nicer suites located in a separate building. The family owned and operated staff were friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was unique and special (ie) fresh fruit, Belgium waffles served with Vermont maple syrup, etc. It was a treat!!! Highly recommend if you are looking for something special, authentic and unique.

Beautiful old mansion. Built in 1887. Lovely staff, very quiet neighborhood, big front porch for morning coffee and paper. It’s exactly halfway between Western New York and Maine. Perfect stopover between the two. Exactly what we wanted. Love it.

We totally enjoyed our 3 night stay at South Shire. The Sleigh room was wonderful...quiet, clean, roomy, and cozy! The bed was extremely comfortable, and any of our requests were met immediately with a smile. Joe's breakfasts were a dream and the perfect way to start our day...our compliments to the chef! They also make it a habit to use local ingredients for their meals which is great to see. (If you go, be sure to check out Henry's Market - bacon to die for!) We didn't have an opportunity to try their dinners, but the menu posted daily looked fabulous. This wonderfully decorated building is located within walking distance of many sights, yet there is no traffic sound. The people made this place SO unique. I've never been treated so nicely- genuinely- by hospitality people. The hotel staff clearly love what they do; you can feel It by how they treat their guests. In addition, the room was so cute, and the fact that it was pet-friendly made it extra special!

We stayed in the large Sleigh Room Suite which was beautiful- comfortable bed, fireplace, jacuzzi bath with separate shower- and quiet. The breakfasts were excellent. The added pleasures were meeting the host- Joe- and staff. They truly care about their guests and want you to feel right at home.

The property was lovely and the host Joe was very nice and accommodating. Our waitress Rebecca was very sweet. Our room The Jim Dandy suite was beautiful. I would recommend this property to my friends!
