Love to stay there. Either on work trips or even with kids during family visits. The rooms are very quiet. Beds are super comfy. The room temperature can be adjusted easily. Every detail is high quality. Staying a few hours in the room to do some work is very comfortable. The rooms are a bit on the small side though. I suggest to book a room on the higher floors. Otherwise you may look straight into the office building next door. In my opinion the in-room dining could have a few more options. I usually book without breakfast and walk to one of the many cafes nearby. The staff is sensational. They really care.

I decided to spend the weekend in Basel instead of being on a train for 22 hours. This hotel is walking distance to the Basel train station and easy to walk around the city from this location. The staff were very friendly and helpful, great breakfast option, nice restaurant in the hotel. There was a weird chemical smell in the hallway - some sort of cleaner, thankfully the room didn't smell like that.

Good but could do better
This hotel is perhaps the best in Basel for style and service. Couple of issues with the hotel. The restaurant needs a wake up call. Same menu for months - have some imagination please! Not expecting anything too exciting - it’s Switzerland- but something different. Also - find a way of cool down the rooms in the evening- those shutters don’t work!

A great hotel - but unpleasant smell.
We've stayed at Movenpick Basel previously and had a wonderful time - the hotel is very comfortable, clean and the service was great. Much was the same on our second visit, and we'd certainly stay if we were to pass through Basel again, but one thing spoiled the experience this time around. The room (on the 6th floor) had a very distinct smell of drains. Even with the bathroom door closed, you could still smell it in bed. We reported this to reception in the evening before we went out for dinner and on our return, the housekeeping staff had been in and sprayed air freshener. This was appreciated, but obviously didn't deal with the underlying issue. When we checked out in the morning and suggested that the maintenance staff might want to take a closer look, we were met with disinterest to the level of rudeness - it was only when my husband explained the issue further in German did the desk staff take a note of the room number. It's a really unpleasant thing to have to experience when you've paid a decent amount of money to stay in a nice hotel - so I'd suggest that the hotel at least give the impression that they are going to look into the issue and also be a bit more sympathetic and apologetic.

Great hotel and perfect location
All the staff were so welcoming and happy to answer any questions. Great service throughout our stay. We had a lovely spacious room. Great location close to lots of tram stops, train station and easy bus to the airport. We were given a free travel pass by the hotel that we could use on public transport. It was however easy to walk into the city centre, Christmas markets and restaurants. Would definitely return to this hotel if visiting Basel again.

I enjoyed everything about my stay here. Convenient for the main station and lose to the town centre, all the staff were very helpful and friendly from reception until we left. The room was a good size and very comfortable and the breakfast buffer had an impressive choice with all of the food being regularly refreshed.

Close to the train station but far away enough from the homeless who hang out there. Walking to shops was easy and near green spaces. Great breakfast, room cleaning was great. Overall a 10. Thanks

Elegant hotel in a quiet yet central location
An elegant hotel in the heart of Basel, near the train station, yet in a quiet area. Great service, great comfort, nice gym. I was asked to pay a 50 CHF deposit despite having pre-paid my room, and it took one month before getting my deposit back.

I would have given overall 5 stars too EXCEPT the wifi is of poor quality and throughout our stay the MOST English TV channels were not working!!! Nothing was done to fix it.
