Cozy Cottage Near Downtown and University of Texas

Our 2-bedroom, 1 bath bungalow is located in the heart of the Hyde Park/North University area. Built in the 1930’s, the house has been lovingly restored and updated. The house has lots of period details, including a screened-in back porch, hardwood floors, custom moldings, and divided lite doors. It is furnished with quality modern and antique furnishings, original art, luxury linens, and enjoys super strong wifi.

Behind the house are two studios which can be rented separately to add additional space if you have a large party. (To view the downstairs Studio, please type 477027 into the VRBO search bar; to view the upstairs Studio, type the number 721797).

You can enjoy the many activities and amenities in this charming historical neighborhood, which is only minutes from the University of Texas and Downtown Austin. Just blocks away is the charming Hyde Park neighborhood center, where you will find an old-fashioned grocery, a coffee house, a gelato bar, and great local restaurants.

Just north of UT Campus

A great little house within a 10+ minute walk from campus. Neat, clean, and cozy 2 bedroom house that was perfect for our needs.

Old but charming in a good location

House was convenient to campus and shops/restaurants. Everything was adequately stocked, but plumbing and infrastructure are in need of repairs. The backyard was charming, but the porch is falling apart and not safe for kids.

Loved this property

We truly enjoyed staying at this property. The house was clean, and inviting, and fun stay to in. Sitting on the back porch was a lot of fun. The neighborhood was safe and filled with similar homes (those were fun to look at too). It was close to everything we planned to do. I always feel that the best way for me to rate a home is if I came back to Austin, would I stay at this home again. For this home, it is definitely yes.

We stayed one night in this lovely house while we were visiting a UT student. It is a great location for the campus. We were comfortable and happy, especially when the live middle eastern music stopped at 10pm. I’m not sure how often this happens but somewhere behind the house, there was a group of musicians playing middle eastern music. We couldn’t determine the source but with our very tired 5 yr old, we were relieved when they stopped.

House not cleaned after last guest, owner refuses refund

We booked for a week, based on good reviews including cleanliness. The listed check-in was 4pm but Ann agreed that we could check in around 2pm. We arrived just after 2pm to find that the beds were unmade, used towels on the towel rail, cooker hob had fat splattered all over etc. We’d already noticed grimy, peeling baseboards on entry and ingrained dirt in several places, including windows, window frames, baseboards and cooker, also badly peeling paint and what could be mold, which made us think that it would take many hours to bring the property to a clean, hygienic standard. We’ve stayed in many VRBO etc. properties over last 10 years and never experienced this before – owners make sure that cleaners go in after guests check out. We’ve never bailed out on a rental before, but didn’t think we should stay there so left and texted Ann to cancel and seek a refund. She said that the cleaner had obviously not been in and that she would go round and do it. We said that we had no confidence that the house could be made ready to a reasonable standard quickly, so would cancel. Ann texted me at 4:12pm to say that it was ready, but we’d managed to find an alternative several miles away and didn’t want to risk losing it by going back and inspecting Ann’s house, especially as we had no confidence in her standards. I tried to agree one night’s amount with a refund of the rest of the week, but Ann has refused any refund, not even the saving on cleaning fee by us not staying there.

I felt so at home I didn’t want to leave!

Originally being from Austin I knew the neighborhood. It’s one that you drive through getting to super cool places, and wish you lived there. I thought about that every morning when I woke up in this perfect house, on a perfect street, in my (temporary) perfect neighborhood. The pictures speak for itself, the house is beautifully decorated. It’s also very functional, providing everything you need. The neighborhood is very walkable, with many great restaurants and lots of shopping nearby. It’s very quiet and peaceful. I highly recommend staying here. I’m hopeful it’s available the next time I’m back home in Austin!

Great Location and cozy stay

Great neighborhood - quiet but close to everything. We did rent a car, which was necessary to get around Austin, but could walk to the UT campus and shops from the house. It was cozy and clean with easy check-in directions. The owner was very welcoming and prompt in replying to our questions (which were not many). Would definitely stay here again!

Awesome Austin Neighborhood

We loved staying at Ann’s home, it was perfect for us. The vintage charm of the home and the decor were perfect. Not cluttered. We ended up not cooking because there are so many great restaurants close by, but the kitchen looked like it had everything you would need. We were in town to visit our daughter who lives a block away, very safe feeling neighborhood and cute park around the corner. We ended up leaving a tote behind and Ann worked with us on getting it back. Thanks and we will be back.

Very pleasant stay.

Everything was fine. Lovely renovated house. We highly recommend it and we will be back. The only issue was getting the TV to work, but I solved it. The issue was the ATT U-verse box. It needed to be restarted. All’s well that ends well.

Fun Family Visit

We stayed here over the Easter break and it was a great location. Quiet, quintessential old Austin neighborhood that was within easy access to lots of places. Space was comfortable and well-appointed. Everything was in working order and owner was easy to communicate with. I recommend taking a walk to Sparky Park around the corner - cool little pocket park.

Such a charming and tranquil stay

I own a rental property so Im constantly looking with a picky eye at the little details and I can honestly say this rental does everything right. The home is decorated in a serene and calming manner. Just the right amount of art work and decor to make it interesting but not cluttered or busy. The kitchen is very usable and has just the right amenities to make it your own. The bath was clean and has all the vintage charm you would expect. The highlight for us was the wonderful back porch with comfy chairs to enjoy the yard and morning coffee. It was a true delight. No hotel can compare to “living” and experiencing a beautiful new neighborhood for a few days.
