Overall excellent. We had difficulty connecting wifi at night. I think wifi capacity is not enough to connect all the devices when too many guests are connecting simultaneously.

My husband and love that the motel is walkable to many local attractions including Old Town Albuquerque, Botanical Gardens and The Bosque. If you enjoy walking for exercise there are safe and beautiful walks adjacent to the motel and across the street at the Bosque.

The only issue we had was how hard it was to check in. We arrived late do to backed up traffic and no one was on site to check in. We had to call and wait to check in. Room Was good sized with the most comfortable beds ever.

Nicely updated room in a retro motel. The room smelled very musty, but appeared clean. Easy walk to Old Town. I probably wouldn't want to be walking around the area at night.

The check-in area seemed a bit cramped. It was just a computer on the edge of a bar in a pass hall. When I was handed my keycard, the guy behind me could clearly see the room number written on it. Perhaps, be more mindful of women traveling alone.

This could be a really cool hotel, but unfortunately, the service just didn't work out. Front desk was very friendly but not too helpful. Called the manager about lack of internet and NEVER received a return call - over a 3 day period. Anyway - if you don't need TV/internet or good service, it's a cool hotel.

We enjoyed our stay at the historic Monterey Motel. Our room was tastefully decorated and quite comfortable. We took a walk to the nearby river trail and ate dinner across the street from the motel. In the morning, a nearby coffee shop was quite convenient. We'd definitely stay again next time we're in Albuquerque.

DO NOT STAY HERE! Never have I been SO disappointed by a property. I hate leaving bad reviews for a non-chain hotel. When I got to the hotel there was not clear signage to where the lobby was. well guess what? The bar is the concierge. So when you need something personal everyone in the bar can hear your request I hated checking in in the bar, more than that I hated asking for extra towels in a packed bar. Oh the towels never arrived btw, the girl running the bar had said "I don't know what im doing or where anything is" The room overall was fine. the biggest plus was the bed comfort, but oh my gosh to my shock I saw a big old brown stain underneath the covers days later... YUCK!!! The tv, lighting and bed comfort were the highlights BIG CONS SAFETY: I was an alone traveler. there were no peep holes on any doors, no secondary locks, no working deadbolt in room 4. HORRIBLE. PLEASE get peepholes and secondary locks. the lady upon checkout was like "youre right we do need those!" HOT WATER: feel like waiting an upwards of 15-25 minutes for it!?Reminder that New Mexico is a drought state. Water is not in a booming supply there. So wasting it for almost a half hour felt wrong to me. I dreaded showering. Also there's a weird half wall in the shower so the floor got flooded I emailed the regional to ask about a partial refund and no answer so I will be asking Expedia. there was more but I have a character limit; DONT STAY HERE

Long time guest but some unexpected problems
I have been staying at the Monterey for more than 30 years, since the 1980s, and I'm very loyal to this motel, as I like the location, the price, and have watched the new developments over the last decade, including the revivified El Vado. However, two years in a row, we have encountered problems with water, including no hot water at all and no water in the shower at all. Both times necessitating that we be moved to other rooms. Staff, though they try to be helpful, is overextended by the present layout, where there is noone directly resposible for ministering to guest problems at the Monterey. Desk employees are being asked to do double duty as the bar/brew pub and front desk and as a result guests are somewhat neglected. Hope the ongoing problems with the physical plant are finally rectified, so future winter visits are not similarly affected.

We loved this very cool retro property. The only thing that was inconvenient is that the office wasn't always open and we had to wait a few minutes to check in/out, but it wasn't a big deal. We had a good time and the bed was pretty comfortable!

Poorly managed property. The television in our room didn’t work and the sole staff member in charge of helping us shrugged his shoulders and told me that that internet was chronically spotty and that as the bar tender it really wasn’t his area of expertise. On top of that the shower had abysmal water pressure and the cleanliness of the room was found to be lacking. Aside from some cool design touches I would advise looking somewhere else if you’re in need of a place to stay in Albuquerque.

The room was pretty clean and cute and had all essentials you would need. One of the nights there was a crisis going on in the room next to us from 2am-4am and we could hear everything. We called the lobby and they didn’t do anything for us so we had to call 911. The cops were able to deescalate the situation luckily, but we didn’t get much sleep. The walls are very thin and you could hear traffic all night as well.

The hotel was great except for the shower. There was no shower door and a lot of water was on the floor when I was finished showering. There never was any soap in the dispenser at the sink. I used soap from the shower.
