Walk/Drive to Neltjeberg Beach - Outdoor Kitchen

Escape to paradise at "La Chascona!" This super-private, cozy home is located on the quiet Northside of St. Thomas. It has breath-taking 180-degree ocean views. Pristine Neltjeberg Beach is just a five-minute drive away.. Dine alfresco in our outdoor kitchen/lounge, with its charcoal grill and wood-fired pizza oven. This two bedroom, two bathroom home is the perfect place to enjoy tranquil island life.

Escape to paradise at "La Chascona!" This super-private, cozy, and new construction (completed 2018) is located on the quiet Northside of St. Thomas. It has breath-taking 180-degree ocean views. Pristine Neltjeberg Beach is just a five-minute drive away, as is Thirteen Restaurant & Bar (Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence Winner). Dine alfresco in our outdoor kitchen/lounge, with its charcoal grill and wood-fired pizza oven. The house collects solar power and stores excess energy in the twin Tesla Powerwall for later use so, even during a grid power outage, you'll have a seamless and noiseless power supply.

At La Chascona, there are infinite possibilities for memorable experiences. Our favorites: enjoying morning espressos in bed while looking out to the bay; sun-bathing on the secluded sandy beach; swimming in the crystal-clear ocean; grilling and making pizzas at sunset; dining by candlelight in the outdoor kitchen; and, star gazing on the double lounger.

Entry to the property is through an electric gate with keypad. The house (and ample parking area) is nestled at the end of a beautifully lit 150-feet concrete and gravel driveway. As this is a new construction, some of the landscaping is a work in progress; we've planted some essential herbs, but the fruits are still immature. The house has a six-feet wide wrap-around cantilevered balcony, with 180-degree ocean views of Inner & Outer Brass Islands from both the inside and out! The entry-level floor has an open plan kitchen, dining, and sitting area. The master bedroom and bathroom adjoin, with sliding barn doors.

There are 15 exterior steps to the lower level bedroom, with its bathroom and laundry closet (conveniently connected to the master bedroom by a laundry chute). Although the outdoor walkways have beautiful wood-textured ceramic tiles, and are covered by a four-feet roof overhang, rain still can make some surfaces a little slippery. Because of this, and the lack of other baby and youngster-friendly accommodations, it's best to wait until everyone in the party is aged about 12 or older before you book! For safety and security, the outdoor areas of our home have CCTV cameras that record locally and to the cloud. Rest assured, their fields of vision do not cover any indoor areas or the outdoor shower!
We STRONGLY suggest securing your car rental as soon as possible. Rental car companies are having a hard time keeping up with the present demand.

Quirks of this tropical island life: public transportation is unreliable and in our view does not provide the coverage and frequency a vacationer needs. We usually rent a SUV. Although sedans do drive to the house and beach, we highly recommend a vehicle with high clearance to negotiate the unpaved road and switch-back turns. The closest mainland-sized grocery store is located a 15-minute drive away - that's not far, but many people bring groceries with them so they don't need to think about shopping until they are truly relaxed. So, to get a flying-start to your vacation, you may wish to either bring some starter proteins and produce with you, or pick up groceries on the way from the airport. Also, there is a convenience store and gas station for basic necessities within a five-minute drive away.

"La Chascona" is named after the love nest that Pablo Neruda, the Nobel Prize-winning Chilean poet, built for his secret lover and eventual wife in Santiago in 1953. We hope that you will find as much relaxation, peace, and joy in our hideaway as Pablo and Matilda found in theirs!

Come stay at La Chascona and enjoy America's Paradise!

Beautiful week

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful property. The property was well equipped with everything we needed plus more but the amazing views and privacy of the property made it feel like your were on your own little island and made it easy to escape the mental stress of daily life and get the most of what vacation is needed for!

Perfect Stay

We loved this house! The view and are were wonderful. The outside area was our favorite part of the house, it was great for eating and hanging out or waking up on the morning to watch the sunrise! If you end up staying here please go down to Neltjeburg Beach it was absolutely stunning!

Best romantic hideaway ever!

La Chascona was a wonderful stay! Private, beautiful, well provisioned, and so close to an almost private beach! While the road to the home (and to the beach) is a real challenge, it is totally worth it! I would stay here again! And highly recommend a 4 x 4 if driving. Enjoy the challenge of the drive and then relish the view.

Paradise

It is a magical house with the most amazing views of the ocean! We loved the outdoor kitchen, the gorgeous house, and the private grounds. As stated, the road is for 4 wheel drive vehicles only and not for the faint of heart but well worth it!

2021 Vacation

House was great and view is amazing. Only issue we had was the driveway gate wasn’t operational and the smart lighting in the house works, but is confusing and glitchy. Overall a wonderful house and stay.

Amazing view and secluded beach nearby

It's all about the view! Quiet northside location suited us well. The beautiful, secluded beach at the bottom of the road below the house was a real bonus! You should have a Jeep to get down & back easily but it's totally worth the bumpy ride.

Fun, beautiful home with incredible views

The pictures don't do it justice. The home has unbelievable views from the master bedroom and main living room space, the outdoor cooking options is fun for all. Dionne (hostess) was incredible responive and helped us out in a pinch when we got a flat ! The place was clean and had an awesome location, the beach we had was practically private since no one was ever there. Dionne helped with everything and made the trip incredible.

Rewarding Getaway

Our stay provided the utmost pleasure and first time depression hit our family in having to leave. La Chascona was the perfect location of privacy and serene surroundings balanced with a short drive to tourist attractions and "busy island life". The home was perfection with surrounding views so much we recorded the ocean sounds to sleep to at night. Dionne was readily available, considerate, and such a friend during our stay. We will return as often as possible to this tranquil getaway. A+ experience in our books!!!!

Perfect private getaway

This home was a perfect base camp for our adventurous family. It is away from the busy island spots, but close enough that we could be anywhere on the island within 20-30 minutes. I definitely recommend a SUV for the road in/out, and that was a fun part of the adventure for our young boys. The outdoor kitchen was a perfect dinner spot, and the view was breathtaking. We had the beautiful private beach to ourselves in the mornings. Only 15 mins to the busier beaches, which we hit a few times. The 15 min drive to the airport and ferries from Charlotte Amalie made it easy to jump to St. John, Tortola, and Virgin Gorda. A fantastic getaway!

Great view!

The property is very private and has a wonderful view. The beach so close by made it such a great place to stay. The drive down to the property is a little steep but the property manager is good about communication and definitely recommended an SUV for our rental vehicle. Traffic in the city is rough so having a place to return to each day that was far away from that was a plus. Overall a great property, just drive slowly when descending the hill to the house as it can be quite rough and will scrape the bottom of your car unless you have decent ground clearance. The manager was fantastic and stayed in constant communication with me for anything I needed.

Honeymoon

This experience was great. Dionne gives you great information before you arrive so you can meet to get access to the home, drives you to the location and gives you a brief overview of the workings of the house. The house is completely as advertised. There are no misleading pictures. The house is located on a remote road, 4 wheel drive is not a necessary but you do need a good ground clearance in order to be able to access this home without damaging your vehicle. Rent a Jeep from the numerous places to choose from and you won't be disappointed nor limited. The beach at the base of the road is amazing, very few people. If you have a car, accessing the other areas of the island are very easy. All in all, phenomenal spot. Great for anyone wanting to get away from the crowds of resorts. Great service (Dionne is available if there were to be any problems, but we did not experience any), great amenities, and everything we were looking for. Would recommend to anyone.

Great house!

The property is so cool! It's small, but comfortable and has fantastic views from the wrap-around balcony, the outdoor living space, and from the master bedroom. We didn't make it down to the private beach and wish we had, but our time was cut short. We enjoyed the outdoor living space very much and spent a lot of time out there! There were a few minor hickups, and Dionne was quick to resolve any issues. The downstairs bedroom has a musty smell and the tiny sink is a bit too small. There are outdated food items that should be removed (IMO), but it was helpful to have use of some of the seasonings, and we helped ourselves to a couple of beers that had been left behind. We left a bottle of wine for the next guests! The dirt road to the house is a bear, just be super careful and go slow! I would definitely stay here again, and take advantage of the private beach just down the road, and if we come back I'll definitely check out the nearby Restaurant 13. Dionne was quick to respond when needed. We really liked this home! It is a lovely place!

We will be back!

I can’t say enough about this place. We stayed for 6 days in the beginning of January. IT WAS INCREDIBLE! We were a group of two couples, and the set up of the house was perfect for us. Enough space to all hang out together but also gave us enough privacy to separate and do our own things. The beach is close and very private, never saw more than a few other people. Pictures don’t do this place, or the view justice. To top it all off, Dionne, the property manager, ROCKS. She was very responsive to our questions regarding the gate, check in and out, and even before hand when I had covid protocol questions. We were out for the day and she warned us of a power outage, but it was back up by the time we returned. Make sure you rent a Jeep as suggested. Also, do yourself a favor and read the “book” when you first get there. It’s incredibly helpful. There isn’t much close in terms of dining, but we loved Thirteen which is just up the road, and the small grocery store next to it was a great option for small items we forgot from our “big” grocery run. Seriously, just rent this place. One member of our group has been to St Thomas many times and lived in Red Hook(more populated area) and said he will always stay on the north end when he comes back. It’s so peaceful. We are already talking a family vacation and hope this place is available when we return!

Beautiful Ocean Views

This was a one of a kind trip. Sure the roads are rough, but know that going in. You don’t get this sort of location in St Thomas just off a main road. It was quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed the place very much, The beach was an extra special treat. We spent many days down there and would rather be there when we were at other beaches. Tip for the pizza oven. Start getting it hot earlier than you think. And get it really hot to better results.

View, View, View

The view is breathtaking. The home is nice and comfortable. It was clean and property manager was always available to us. The only reason I gave the location/neighborhood a 4 instead of a 5 is the long rocky drive to get to the home. They are not kidding when they say you need a Jeep or SUV. A car will not cut it and you will probably cause damage to the vehicle. So if wanting to save money and you move forward with getting a car, I strongly suggest getting full insurance coverage on vehicle because some type of damage will probably happen. However, it is the islands and this home definitely reminds you of this. Otherwise, everything else was what you expected. The beach at the end of the road was beautiful and peaceful. You had much privacy from the neighbors. We enjoyed our stay very much and plan on returning next year.

Carribean Life

We enjoyed the outdoor grill and pizza oven. We grilled or made pizza most nights. The road does take a vehicle with high ground clearance. We rented a jeep and did fine. We rarely met other cars on the steep inclines. The beach was beautiful and secluded. Sitting outside and enjoying the view from the house was very peaceful. We would stay again.

Quaint getaway

Quiet location. Gorgeous views. House is quite tiny (far smaller than it appears in the photos). Best suited for 2 people in my opinion but you could get by with 4. Beds, pillows, and lounges were quite comfortable. Some of the technology didn't work properly or at all but none that impacted our stay with the exception of the gate remote not working which made it a challenge to get out for a morning walk but it wasn't a big deal. The nearby beach is lovely. The dirt road to the house isl quite steep and washed out so I was glad we had a Jeep. The wood fired pizza oven takes forever to heat up but it was fun to try. All in all, I very much enjoyed our time at the house and would consider renting it again. Dionne is particularly helpful and responsive which added to our positive experience.

Absolutely loved it!

This property did not disappoint! The outdoor area is beautifully landscaped with so many comfortable spots to just relax! We didn’t cook much because we were pretty busy exploring the island but we did manage to use the outdoor wood fire pizza oven twice, which made delicious pizza! It was also a relaxing experience, building the fire and sitting outside waiting for it to reach the perfect temperature to cook. We took advantage of the outdoor shower to rinse off the sand before heading inside. If you are feeling adventurous, take the walk down to the beach! But be prepared for the walk back up, it will get your heart rate up for sure! It was a good morning exercise for sure! I do agree that you should rent a Jeep, or other SUV with a higher clearance, but we managed it in a car OK (my husband is a rock star!) We absolutely loved the house, the nearby beaches, and the island. We will be back!!

Neltjeberg Bay - The view, location, and privacy are unmatched here!

This property (especially it's communal areas) are special. Views are everywhere in this private retreat. It is small, but who cares when you have all the additional space outside. The beach below it is only really known to locals and even they avoid it a bit because of the steep, ungrated gravel to get there...but IT'S WORTH IT! Beach is like your own private retreat and is great for snorkeling on the west side, swimming and beautiful sand and views. Must have 4 x 4 - Jeep is best. Some small drawbacks....outside shower just has a trickle and we held hose for each other to shower off from beach, downstairs bed & bath needed a dehumidifier, technology didn't all work (like window and skylight blinds - but they had a few masks for sleeping). Cokis are very loud at night but by the second night I became fond of them - take some ear plugs and a sleeping mask. Also if you plan to run around the island a lot and eat out every night and don't like the adventurous 4x4 road experience...this might not be for you, but we found it no problem (if it rained hard it might be though). We all agreed we would stay again and were appreciative to the owners for making their special place accessible to others and for the set up of beach chairs, coolers, towels, umbrellas, etc. It was clear they put a lot of thought into it.
