With its many outdoor attractions and cultural delights, this town is regarded as the gem of South Carolina’s Upcountry region.

Spartanburg is named after the Revolutionary War-era Spartan regiment, which protected the region from British forces. The city’s rich history is balanced by a modern downtown.

Explore the dynamic history of Spartanburg at Walnut Grove Plantation. This historic home offers a glimpse into the fight for independence during the Revolutionary War in the 18th century. Make a visit to Hub City Railroad Museum to learn how the town got its nickname.

See musicians or comedians take the stage at Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium. Enjoy top local talent at the HUB-BUB, a venue that hosts art exhibits, musical performances and plays. At Chapman Cultural Center, catch a show in the black box theater or bring the kids to enjoy its interactive science and arts exhibits. See the works of regionally and internationally acclaimed artists at Spartanburg Art Museum.

Acquaint yourself with the town as you walk along the Spartanburg Music Trail, an audio tour featuring sound installations. You’ll learn about the musicians that called this region home and see the public art that features prominently throughout the downtown area.

Main Street is home to a variety of venues to enjoy food and drink, from wine bars to family restaurants. Morgan Square hosts Jazz on the Square in the spring and fall, and Music on Main during the summer.

Spend a sunny afternoon at Hatcher Garden and Woodland Preserve. Enjoy South Carolina’s temperate climate as you lounge in front of the pond or stroll along the walking trails. Rent boats at Croft State Park and explore Craig Lake. Hiking, biking and equestrian trails provide a great way to see the foliage, which takes on a splendid color scheme during the autumn months.

Charlotte, North Carolina is 75 miles (120.7 kilometers) from Spartanburg and Asheville is just over an hour by car. The B-Cycle bike sharing system makes it easy to get around Spartanburg without a car. Spartanburg is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, which provide the quaint town with a beautiful scenic backdrop.

It’s a cute town. I like how the restaurants put the tables out and closed the main square street. I love to walk around that area up to the beautiful stone churches.

Even though Covid-19 had everything shut down, the Zaxby's in Boiling Springs was right on top of eveyrthing helping get everyone quickly through their drive thru or curbside.

We had to go eat at the Beacon. Hadn't been there in over 30 years. Still like it was. Then drove down Hwy 11 and enjoyed many sights in upper SC.

It is a small town and hard to find an Uber after midnight to go to the airport. I recommend considering securing a transportation if you are staying there. Because there are no taxi companies.
