ノルウェー漁村博物館
Visit this preserved fishing village and see historic buildings, including a 19th-century stone oven bakery and a boathouse with traditional Nordland boats.

Experience life in a fishing village at the Norwegian Fishing Village Museum. This museum is dedicated to conserving the history of the Lofoten Fishery, spanning over 200 years. Enjoy sweet pastries and bread from the museum’s stone oven bakery. Walk through beautiful gardens and see the historic cabins of traveling fishermen.

The Norwegian Fishing Village Museum also features a grocery shop in a mid-19th century building, selling local produce, fishing supplies and textiles. Take a guided tour of the museum and see exhibits on a cod-liver oil factory, the Lofoten Fishery and the homes of the villagers.

Study exhibits on life in this historic fishing village. Discover how coastal farming operates north of the Arctic Circle and learn about the lives of traveling fishermen who stayed in the rorbu cabins, extending over the water on stilts. Exhibits also focus on Norway’s first cod-liver oil factory, a historic site that once produced fuel for oil lamps all over Europe.

Tour the main boathouse and find an exhibit on the history of the Lofoten Fishery. Learn about the boats and fishing equipment used by fishermen throughout the life of this significant fishery. The boathouse also features an exceptional collection of old Nordland boats and fishing tackle.

The museum’s active bakery sells freshly baked goods and local crafts. This bakery dates back about 150 years and still produces delicious cinnamon buns and bread. The huge brick oven can bake up to 100 loaves of bread at a time. Stop at the working forge and see how a blacksmith makes cod-liver oil lamps and knives.

The Norwegian Fishing Village Museum is located in Sørvågen about 27 miles (44 kilometers) from the center of Lofoten. The museum is open daily during the summer and Monday to Friday the rest of the year. Check the official website for information on admission fees, guided tours and special events. Stay in Lofoten, with available quayside hotels, suites and self-catered apartments.

The Norwegian Fishing Village Museum is dedicated to teaching visitors about traditional village life in northern Norway and preserving the history of one of the region’s oldest industries.
