Explore this traditional beach town on Wales’ northern coast. It is framed by sandy bays, surrounded by ancient hills and home to Victoria-era architecture.

Visit Llandudno for the true essence of a British seaside resort. The town’s beaches, pier and pristine seafront preserve a captivating 19th-century splendor. Llandudno straddles the Creuddyn Peninsula on Wales’ northernmost coastline and overlooks the Irish Sea.

The town’s century-old charm resonates from Llandudno Promenade, sweeping elegantly around Llandudno Bay. Buy an ice cream, stroll along the waterfront and appreciate the well-preserved architectural landscape. Shop for curios and enjoy the amusement arcades on Llandudno PierOpens in a new window. Be entertained by a Punch and Judy puppet show.

The town’s beaches frame both sides of the peninsula. North Shore Beach sits in front of the promenade and is popular for donkey rides, sailing and windsurfing. West Shore Beach is quieter, offers views of Anglesey and attracts kite-surfers and surfers.

Stroll around the town center streets to find cafés, teahouses and friendly pubs. Browse exhibits of contemporary art at the Oriel Mostyn Gallery. Explore the town’s long history at the Llandudno Museum and see a recreation of life during World War II at the Home Front Experience.

Another of Llandudno’s major attractions is the Great OrmeOpens in a new window, a huge headland traversed by walking trails and inhabited by varied wildlife. Reach the summit via the historic Great Orme TramwayOpens in a new window and the Llandudno Cable Car. Visit the Bronze Age mining complex, Great Orme Mines. Bike or drive along Marine Drive, a scenic road that encircles the headland.

Rent a car or use public transportation to reach attractions a short drive from the town center. Wander next to the perfectly groomed lawns of Bodnant Garden and spot exotic creatures at the Welsh Mountain Zoo. Walk in the footsteps of medieval kings at Conwy Castle. Relax and enjoy watersports at Colwyn Bay Beach and Penrhyn Bay Beach.

Regular train services connect Llandudno with English cities such as Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester. Visit during May’s Victorian Extravaganza, when bands, dance groups and street performers celebrate the town’s Victorian heritage.

Some areas are run down but generally nice. Loved the hike up Great Orme. Easy bus ride to Conway to see the castle. A wonderful wine bar called Snooze has excellent food.

Llandudno is an amazing holiday resort. It is very well laid out. Many of the streets are covered by canopies! I has a very good rail service and frequent busses to all North Wales locations.

Attractive buildings. Less run down than many British seaside resorts. Lots to see and do in the area.
