Lifelong patrons know this spectacular destination as the Big Mountain Ski Resort, but the 2007 namechange hasn’t altered a bit of its allure.

Situated in the Flathead National Forest of Montana — and just 19 miles from Glacier National Park — Whitefish Mountain Resort has blossomed intoa first-class getaway spot that offers some of the best ski vacation packages in the area.Explore the 3,000 acres of skiable terrain. Take advantage of the 300 inches ofpowdery snow that falls each season. Race down the gorgeous groomers, orcheck out the Whitefish snowboarding opportunities at the epic bowls. When youbook lift tickets and ski rentals at WhitefishMountain, a world of winter delights is waiting to make you swoon.

Plus, if you’re new to the sport, this is the place for you. Though Whitefish ski packages give you access to afair share of expert terrain, the real beauty lies in its beginner, intermediate, and ski school options.Advanced skiers who haven’t quite reached that would-be pro level will alsohave a blast focus your tickets and rentals on the famous Hell Roaring for theresort’s tightest tree runs and topvertical chutes. Night skiing and heli skiing are equally great opportunitiesfor travelers seeking that extra bit of adventure.

One of the most unique things about Whitefish,Montana skiing, however, is the region’s weather.Big Mountain is known for its fog and snow ghosts, and both of these can reducevisibility on the trails. Take note of the fluctuations when you’re planningyour ski vacations you might want to pass on a few of the more challenging runs,if the fog gets too heavy.

Of course, there’s plenty beyond the slopes to keep you entertained inthis MT treasure. The town itself isknown for its laid-back attitude, and it balances an old-school resort vibewith a spate of trendy amenities. What’s more, it’s extremely affordable youcan easily track down deals and discount priceson accommodations and ski toursallowing you bask in the beauty of this unforgettable place. Welcome toparadise.

Many of the restaurants were closed while we were there, but the village of Whitefish is 15 minutes away by car. There is a ski lift which you can take up to the summit of Whitefish Mountain and there are nice hiking trails.
