USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park Tours

USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park featuring military items
Board a legendary World War II vessel and inspect authentic fighter planes in a park dedicated to military craft of every shape and size.

The biggest attraction at Battleship Memorial Park is the mighty World War II warship USS Alabama. Find it docked in the harbor surrounded by a collection of planes and other ships from the same era. This appealing military museum honors the pilots and navy members who fought in the war. Learn about wartime experiences and the pivotal battles in which these vessels and military aircraft were used.

Learn a bit of history about the USS Alabama. It set sail in 1942 and garnered nine Battle Stars for its military successes during the war. The battleship also led the fleet into Tokyo on V-J Day in 1945. After the war, it faced scrappage, but was rescued by the state and welcomed into Mobile's Memorial Park in 1965.

Step onto the battleship to see what life was like on board. Imagine what seamen would have experienced during the war, when this ship carried a crew of 2,500 people. Wander around the deck and examine the artillery.

Explore other military craft within the park, including the DRUM, a submarine that was involved in several wartime skirmishes. Climb inside to get a sense of what the cramped living conditions were like for America's underwater heroes. B-52 bombers, A-12 spy planes and a number of other aircraft are also displayed.

View the park’s memorials and reflect on the sacrifice of those who died in the war. Statues and gravestones are dotted throughout the park, commemorating numerous wars in which the United States has been involved.

Download the park's official app and embark on a self-guided tour following the app’s instructions. Plan for about 2 hours to explore the attraction, but stay for as long as you want.

Battleship Memorial Park is open every day of the year except Christmas. Find metered parking and a café on the site. The park is located about 5 minutes away by car from other Mobile sights, such as the History Museum and the Civic Center.

I would recommend taking at least 3 hours to explore this massive ship and its on board exhibitions as well as the surrounding areas and exhibits.

Great for kids but remember to bring a non-stroller option for infants! I wore my baby on me and that worked well.

We went to the memorials in the park first, then the battleship, then the aviation museum, and then the submarine, and were whipped. Better to do the memorials and displays in the park last - lots of climbing and (in the submarine) walking in cramped spaces, but the memorials & displays in the park are on level ground. Easier that way I think.
