Owner double-booked property. Poor communication. Delayed refund.
Never got to stay here, but sharing my experience of last minute cancelation by owner, double-booking on VRBO, and delayed refunds for stays I never did. Very poor communication from owner.
February 2, 2023. Paid deposit and received confirmation of booking in Kent, CT for July 19 - 23, 2023.
Thursday, June 22, 2023. Owner Bruce Carrol notified me that they had to cancel my stay, citing "Natural Disaster" as the reason code, but acknowledging in a message they had two family funerals that month. I expressed condolences, and started looking elsewhere.
With less than 30 days to go before our own family's gathering, (3 households from three different states gathering in New England), I scrambled to find different lodging. Luckily, after searching through options on VRBO for an hour, I found a new listing that met our needs. Paid my deposit and received confirmation. Several hours later, received a message from Bruce Carrol that this listing was not available. Come to find out, that's because it is the SAME OWNER. SAME PROPERTY for SAME DATES still active on VRBO.
Fast forward to July 19th. Family is now gathered at a totally different rental in another town I was finally able to get at last minute. Received VRBO alerts message asking if I'm "ready for my stay in Kent." What?
July 19, Credit card is charged AGAIN for the final amount at Kent property. Owner finally cancels my stay in VRBO system, but credit card refund won't arrive until the next credit card cycle.
