Nica but basic Hotel
Informal atmosphere. Nice location (easy access to what Kyoto has to offer) and a nice but small room. Would certainly recommend this to others. The only downsides was noise from the street and some issues with the wireless internet access, but overall good value for the money.

Terrible stay
The room is so small and it's only divided by a hardboard so the noise from next the other rooms can be heard. Footsteps from the hallway can be heard from our room. Even people plug or unplug cables can be heard. The noise from receptions area can be heard as well. I woke up at 5am because I smelled someone smoking inside the guest house. I dont recommend this place at all especially if you come as family and want to have a good night rest.

Great staff! The hotel is so close to downtown and this is great! The staff is absolutely great!

Value for money. Dorm room is quite tight.
Accessible to bus and train station. Nearby convenient stores. Have to climb up stairs which is quite challenging with big luggages. Staffs are very nice, helpful and speaks English quite well. Need to change the mattress or clean then regularly. Had a musky, wet wood kind of smell. Overall okay - value for money.

Unexpected surprise!
There were 3 of us travelling. When we arrived at the hotel, we were informed that we will not be staying at the hotel, but at another apartment about 100m walk from the hotel (round the corner). There are no lift servicing this apartment. Anyway we have no complaint of being ''upgraded'' to this apartment since we have the whole place to ourselves, fully equipped with 2 double beds, kitchen with basic utensils, microwave, bathroom. We welcome the space compared to if we were given the standard hotel room. Only challenging part was the air-cond remote control is in Japanese and we had no idea that we had accidentally press the ''heater button''. We thought air-cond had broken down and dispensing hot air. Anyway the young manager came over to fix our problem promptly. We stayed 2 nights at this place. We assume we were given this apartment to stay as there were 3 of us.

Nice room, quiet, clean, cheap
Was a good place to come back to on a hot day with A/C and near by a supermarket. Had a private room w kitchen and ensuite. I would come back.
