Enjoy birdsong, historic buildings and relaxing tai chi classes in this expansive green oasis in Hong Kong’s heart.

Hong Kong Park offers tranquility and birdsong in the middle of this ever-moving metropolis. This beautifully landscaped area located in downtown Hong Kong provides incredible views of the surrounding skyscrapers. Take a reflective stroll around the koi ponds, join a group for some tai chi and enjoy the beautifully preserved remnants of yesteryear in this historic park.

Hong Kong Park was opened in 1991 on the former site of Victoria Barracks. Come to see some of the grand garrison buildings which date back to the start of the 20th century. Visit the Cassels Block, a former residence for military officers, which now houses the Hong Kong Visual Arts Center. Take an interesting stroll around this British Period building and see artists at work alongside modern sculptures and artworks. Explore the park to find other historical buildings like the Rawlinson House, Wavell House and the Flagstaff House, where you can browse the charming Museum of Tea Ware.

After exploring the historic architecture, experience the park’s incredible Edward Youde aviary. This enormous enclosure maximizes space for birds and provides elevated walkways so visitors have the greatest chance of spotting some of the 800 birds that reside here. Nearby, caged displays give visitors an even closer look at the colorful plumes of rare Asian species. Nature lovers will also find a number of spectacular tree species here including fig, candlenut and kapok trees.

Next to the aviary, spend an hour bending, stretching and breathing with locals at the Tai Chi garden, a space dedicated to the ancient Chinese artform. Take a walk around the parks central pond and spot colorful fish as well as a spectacular fountain at the Fountain Plaza. Grab a quick lunch at the park’s restaurant.

The Forsgate Conservatory provides a peaceful destination for plant lovers. Take a tour of each of its three plant houses and enjoy a huge range of exotic species as colorful butterflies and dragonflies float by.

The park’s facilities are open daily and you can get there by bus or metro. Book Conservatory tours online.
