Forest Mall is a shopping center in the resort area of Kawaguchiko. With choices ranging from a 100-yen shop to a supermarket, pharmacy, home improvement center and sporting goods and clothing stores, this mall is known for its convenience for residents and visitors to the Fuji Five Lakes area. Because it is far from any city congestion, the mall is a pleasant place for leisurely shopping. Come here for any essentials you need and have a snack or meal as you meander between stores.
Mount Fuji is 9 miles (14 kilometers) south of the mall, but it looms invitingly, often topped with a pristine layer of white snow. If you plan to climb Mount Fuji, Forest Mall is a great place to purchase supplies and snacks for your hike.
Stop here afterward to reflect on the climb while enjoying dinner at one of the mall’s varied eating spots, ranging from fast food to Japanese and Chinese restaurants and apatisserie.
Travel by direct train or bus from Tokyo to Kawaguchiko in 2 to 3 hours. From the center of the Fujikawaguchiko neighborhood, walk southwest to Forest Mall in about 25 minutes or ride a bus from Kawaguchiko station. Once in the region, driving is often the most convenient way to get to Forest Mall, especially if you will be purchasing items to carry away. Use the ample free parking available along the south sides of the mall buildings.
Visit other nearby attractions including Lake Kawaguchiko and the Mount Fuji Panoramic Ropeway to the north. Time your travels in this area for popular local festival events including those celebrating spring cherry blossoms and autumn leaves. Winter fireworks reflect over the still waters of the lake.
