Charming and Private with a Water view

This thoughtfully furnished, cozy 1 bedroom house is an ideal love nest or quiet retreat for writers, artists, nature lovers, cyclists, a single person or those who love to be surrounded by quiet beauty. Located eleven miles from town in the Neck District, 1 mile from a firehouse and country store. This brand new old house has been completely renovated but retains its historic house charm. Sleeps 1 couple comfortably and also has a pull out sofa in a love seat. No Pets, No smoking. Incredible biking and nature all around, as is the Chesapeake Bay. A gorgeous creek is across the street. This is where the professional crabbers get the famous Maryland crabs. A very unique house in a very special, unspoiled and historic part of the world.

Lovely quiet house for a peaceful getaway
I stayed here with my husband in August 2023. We had a great time! Sitting outside you can see hummingbirds, eagles, cardinals, and more. But be sure to bring bug spray because the mosquitoes are relentless. The house is fully stocked with everything you need, such as toilet paper, napkins, kitchenware, towels, etc. We had breakfast at Cindy’s cafe a couple times, a local favorite, and it was delicious. If you want a casual lunch/dinner go to Carmela’s for excellent pizza and Italian food. There are of course several seafood places in town too. I highly recommend the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge for kayaking/hiking. Anyway the bed at this house is very comfortable (which can make or break a stay!). There are some ants in the kitchen but they are tiny and harmless. The neighborhood is very quiet. You can’t see any water from the property, so I’m not sure why it’s listed as a “water view” but you can drive about 15 mins for boating etc. Overall we had a great time and would recommend this place!

Comfortable home for two
Good location for exploring the region. Country setting, but close to stores, restaurants, museums, etc. Super comfortable bed! Extra roomy shower. Well set-up kitchen. Property manager Jackie was very helpful. Enjoyed our stay!

Great care and attention
We stayed three nights over the Memorial Day weekend (2023) and found not a single aesthetic or functional detail that we didn’t appreciate. In fact, we were inspired with some ideas even for our own home. The love and attention poured into this home is evident. And it was well-supplied, from kitchen (every kind of pot, pan, etc—every cleaner) to bathroom (a collection of travelers soaps, shampoos, and sundries) to bedroom (a surplus of pillows and blankets, etc, and a large bed). It’s a cozy space, but doesn’t feel particularly small because it’s well laid out. Great place to rest or as a convenient springboard for a wide variety of Eastern Shore destinations and activities (maps and guides abound in the home). Nice to be a short country drive from Cambridge, with all it offers, with the wilds of Blackwater and all the cultural and natural history near by. The host was very responsive.

Quaint Rural Getaway
Quaint home that was accurately advertised. During our stay it poured the rain for days, so, I would recommend a covering over the front door and the combination lock required for entry on the side door moved to the front door so you don’t have to walk through the wet grass and yard.

A step back in time but with all modern conveniences
My wife and I spent 6 nights in the cottage, and would definitely recommend it to a couple who want a cozy place with an old-time feel but with every modern convenience. The cottage is about a hundred years old, but per the host has been updated down to the studs--and that is correct. We stayed in the summer, so didn't use the wood stove, but I was very impressed by the new air conditioning--so much so that I've resolved to get ours at home updated to a new system so it is effective but quiet and unobtrusive as this AC system. I also enjoyed the soaking tub--and the on-demand water heater provided plenty of hot water. The host and her housekeeper were responsive to all our communications; the housekeeper directed me to the drawer where I found a new battery for the upstairs fan remote, for example. Regarding the neighborhood: this is where you really feel that you have stepped back in time. Neighbors are friendly and helpful--everyone you see will wave and expect you to wave back. A short walk down Hudson Wharf Road will give you a great view of the Hudson River (a tributary of the bay); and you can expect that any neighbors working outside will be happy to chat with you and tell you about local life. We hope to come back in the winter sometime to witness the spectacular waterfowl migration at the nearby Blackwater Wildlife Refuge.

A Week to Remember!
The base of 906 Hudson Road allowed us to indulge in some non-stop delights on Maryland's Eastern Shore. The house was a haven for us, comfortable, well equipped and in a quiet rural area close to Cambridge, with the benefit of a perfect breakfast spot just down the road. We visited Oxford, St Michaels, Tilghman Island and Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, often concluding our day at a waterside seafood restaurant with delicious crab. Definitely a memorable stay that we hope to repeat in the future. Glad we found it!
