The museum dates back to 1961 and was designed by famous architect Philip Johnson. It is named after Amon G. Carter Sr., who originally funded the museum as a home for his own works by Charles M. Russell and Frederic Remington, as well as to display American art more broadly. Visit today and you will see how the museum’s collection and reputation have grown over the years.
