Somerset House Albany WA

Somerset House is a special treat boasting six bedrooms and spacious living areas. Its a short stroll to the centre and local restaurants or relax on large verandahs with commanding views of Princess Royal Harbor and the Albany Town site.

The property is an historic original home in a central but tranquil location on the slopes of Mount Clarence and only a block away from the historic Earl of Spencer.

There are large verandas with views on three sides and a BBQ area on the top level also with views. Downstairs you can enjoy a different vista from the breakfast decking off the kitchen and the children can play in the grassed sunken garden at the rear of the property.

Somerset has a large air conditioner with heating and wood fire heating up and downstairs. The house has natural cooling during summer particularly with the 600mm thick granite on the ground floor.

Albany overlooking the Princess Royal Harbour and walk to the Earl of Spencer Inn

Albany is located on the South West tip of WA and the area is referred to as the Great Southern. With stunning beaches and two major rivers it has much to offer the sightseer. Somerset is only meters from the central location and is handy to most local attractions.

The Great Southern is renown for its diversity of flora and fauna and amazing vistas.

The region has a milder climate than Perth with cooler summers and cooler winters. The best time to visit is between January and July when the Southerly winds are at their minimum.

Enjoy the peace of quiet and yet indulge in the amazing local food and fine wines that this region is becoming known for.

Art is also well represented and you can find many excellent and unique masterpieces. The key is to know where to go and research the area before arriving. Ask the Albany Visitor Centre for details or discover the maps at Somerset to help you enjoy this diverse and unique region.

Local Attractions

Albany is the first european settlement in WA. It has a fascinating collection of historic building including the Lodge. The scenery is spectacular and the water sports are many. The native flora and flauna are the most diverse in WA.

Fabulous grand historical house
This grand old house is positioned on a hill with fabulous views of the inlet and walking distance from the centre of town. The facilities are a bit tired, but the house overall is very comfortable.

A great holiday weekend.
House is centrally located and charming. Parking was a little tricky due to the steep incline. Really appreciated the heritage of the property but could have had more modern conveniences although the kids loved the idea there might be a ghost or two hanging around. Overall everyone had a great time and really enjoyed being in the heart of the city with views to die for.

Great location, fantastic views from the deck. Only down side was the barbecue & utensils were not cleaned from the previous guests. Bathroom downstairs has a bath/ shower, a handrail would have been great for getting in & out, especially if you have an older group staying. Would recommend the property.

Stunning in every way! The location, the views, the house was large and spacious with tons of character. We all had a own areas to chill out or large meeting rooms ie the dining sat up to 12 and the lounge was spacious too. The kitchen was to die for and the large verandas with views over the hills town and harbour. everything was spoton

Eclectic
Location is amazing with equally wonderous views of the bay. Check in and communication were easy too. House is filled with antiques. Not really our cup of tea though. Odd smell here and there was noted too. I developed asthma too (often this is from dust). Floor also was quite sticky in a few places. Bathroom had an ant problem too. No wifi :(. But some may enjoy this property with its heritage features

Fabulous historic house
My family and I had a wonderful stay at Somerset house. It has a beautiful view over the town and harbour with only a short walk to town. The house is very well equipped and comfortable. We especially loved the old Meters stove in the kitchen! Highly recommended for a large family.
