So what is Scarritt Bennett Center?
Scarritt Bennett Center is a nonprofit conference, retreat, and transformative education center. It's history dates back to the late 19th century when it was first established as the Scarritt College for Christian Workers. The college sought to train young women missionaries in a time when women were still prohibited from many forms of leadership. The college eventually became co-ed, and in 1952 it became one of the first white, private colleges in the state of Tennessee to integrate. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. famously visited the college and preached in its historic Wightman Chapel on April 25, 1957. Scarritt College operated from 1892 up until 1988 when it became the home of the now nonprofit organization, Scarritt Bennett Center.
Today, Scarritt Bennett Center's mission is “to create space where individuals and groups engage each other to achieve a more just world.” The center is property of the Women's Division of the United Methodist Church. Expect to see the United Methodist Women on campus throughout the year for board meetings, chapter workshops, and retreats. The campus also regularly hosts conferences, private events, weddings, and elopements.
Scarritt Bennett Center offers a variety of programming across the year that are free and open to the public, including poetry readings, live jazz music, chapel services, and more. Guests staying on campus are encouraged to participate in all that the campus has to offer - after you have booked, please inquire for more info about these campus activities.
Guest Access You and your guests will have access to the entire house and the ability to explore the Scarritt Bennett campus!

The house is rich in history and outfitted with modern amenities. Beautiful location on grounds of a campus and adjacent to Vanderbilt. Walking distance to some restaurants / coffee shops / CVS and a quick ride to other attractions. Will def stay again next time in Nashville.
Our work girls wanted a weekend away to celebrate my 49 th birthday and have some fun! The house was amazing, just what we needed! It was clean, neat, had everything we needed, a great location, quiet and just lovely! My next trip to Nashville I will seek this house to stay in!
Spacious floor plan, loved the front porch. House sits on a hill looking down at an intersection. Lots of lightning, beautiful showers. Only 12 min drive to broadway. Starbucks within a four min walk along with other restaurants.
This house is gorgeous! Perfect for groups. Twenty min walk to Broadway. Lots of restaurants, as well as cafes, within a short walk. Rooms are cozy. House is clean. Easy and quick communication with hosts. We absolutely loved the kitchen and front porch for chatting.
Perfect stay for mother-daughter visit to Nashville
This beautiful, historic home is such a welcome difference from the typical Nashville tall and skinny rent house. We felt nestled into local history in the spacious home with big rooms and tall ceilings. We had everything we needed! The conversation area was comfortable. Beds were comfly and the thermostat was the right temperature. The several desk areas would have been perfect if any of us had to do any work. The host service was so responsive and helpful. We were a close drive or lyft ride to do many attractions. Highly recommend!
This house was perfect for our family get together. The house only needs a few edits to make it even more enjoyable. There wasn't enough seating in the living room area or the front porch or everyone. We had to carry chairs from the dining room around the house so we could all be together. Also, the front porch was very dirty with dust, dirt and cobwebs. These are all easy fixes, and we really did enjoy our stay. I would recommend.
Stayed three nights, very impressed from booking to the end of our stay! Communication was spot on with the host! The home is updated, the pictures online look great but for me It looked even better in person! We would definitely stay again!
I would highly recommend this property. We had a small issue, due to weather, and the property management was excellent in resolving it. We had a great time.
The home was perfect for our family (6 adults) with plenty of room and the location was fantastic. We could walk to lunch/dinner and it was so conveniently located near Vanderbilt University and Broadway. We would definitely stay in this home again.
The location was perfect. Easy to get to and perfect walking distance for nearby places to eat. Huge front porch for enjoying our morning coffee. The house was very spacious with lots of windows upstairs and downstairs. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Beautiful home!! Highly recommend! It was very spacious, clean, and the location was perfect. Just a short Uber ride to Broadway or a walk to other places nearby. We will most definitely return.
This property and our stay was wonderful. The home is as described. It is very clean and had everything that we needed for a great stay. I requested an early check-in/late check-out late in the game and they were very quick to respond, and ultimately accommodate the requests. A lot of restaurants and shops are close to the property but it is a very quite location. Broadway is a short walk and the Opry is a short drive. If I'm back in Nashville with my family I'd plan to rent this property again.
This property is so cute and maintained well. Love the amount of bathrooms per beds in the house. Perfect for a stay in Nashville. I stayed here with my bridesmaids for my bachelorette party weekend. Quiet neighborhood. You CAN walk to broadway, but it’s a good half hour hike. We walked and ubered depending on our outfits and plans for the day. I also appreciate my personalized note left at check in. Would definitely come back. Thumbs up 👍🏼
What a great little spot! We have been coming to Nashville for years and we absolutely loved this property. The bedrooms were quite large as well as the bathrooms which are all redone and beautiful. The kitchen had everything we needed and the home is set up perfectly for families with different generations or even just couples. Privacy when you want it and great common space for keeping everyone together. Leah was amazing with answering any questions we had so promptly and happily. My husband, myself and our four kids loved the quiet spot the home was in but just right down the road was coffee shops, Vanderbilt, Panera, Chipotle and then some! You don’t even need to rent a car although we did anyways. We loved our stay here and hope to visit again soon.
