Our family of five adults stayed in Peter and Martine’s villa for 12 nights in July this year (2021), the first time we had traveled since Covid. We live in New York, and our son in the UK and when Antigua was added to the UK’s so-called green list of countries, it seemed like a great option for us to reunite.
The villa is spacious, very tastefully and comfortably furnished and had everything we needed for our stay. The kitchen is extremely well stocked, and we were able to prepare meals and even blend cocktails and enjoy them on the lovely terrace.
The resort itself is very clean and green and we enjoyed the time we spent at the pools and on the beach there. Our two older children used the gym daily, and we enjoyed early morning walks along the beach and around the gardens of the resort. Staff were friendly, and the arrangements for pre-departure Covid testing were convenient and stress free. One of the beaches had a lot of dead seaweed which made it sometimes smelly and unusable but this may have been seasonal and we witnessed the same issue further along the coast at Half Moon Bay which we had understood to be one of the island’s best beaches.
Communication with Peter was straightforward both before and during our stay and our questions were answered immediately, despite our being in different time zones. Contact with the local property holder was also easy and an issue with a replacement battery for the safe was resolved as quickly as weekend hours would alllow.
We rented a car from the Titi rental agency; the daily rate was reasonable and included a return trip to the airport which was very convenient. Unless you opt for the all inclusive package at St James’s, a car is a must as, similar to other properties on Antigua, there are no grocery stores or restaurants within walking distance, and a return trip by taxi to English Harbour is only slightly less than the daily cost of a car.
I would highly recommend both Antigua and Peter and Martine’s villa. We had a lovely holiday, and hope to return in the not too distant future.
