"We had a marvellous time at Caracal Lodge. It was a wonderful away from it all experience. Magtree Cottage was very comfortable and well equipped even though there is no electricity, power being supplied by gas appliances, paraffin lamps and LED lighting. It was magical to wake up with views of the resident giraffe family as well as zebra, impala, horses and a pet pig! Outside there was a braai, fire pit in a lovely shaded area and a small pond. Exploring the 300 hectare game park there...

"Very beautiful place in tranquil setting with all the needed goods in support. Place was clean and the fire places useful with the cold night. Like the baths in the bathroom making for a very romantic get away and setting"

"It's a long way down the dirt track to Tonteldoos, the bar is a bikers haven with a small collection of classic bikes. Location is really isolated and pretty, goats and peaches all around. House was far bigger than we needed and a kind of 1980s throwback, Eight of us rattled around in it. Host very friendly, highly recommended if you like this sort of thing. We were random tourists in a low clearance hire car, so the last 20 km was slow!"

"We spent two very enjoyable days at this very special lodge. Our host Issabella was first class and looked after us as if we were family.The whole place is beautiful and the bird life is prolific.There are two very lovely guest lodges and a fun safari tent with its own out side toilet and shower facilities.You must phone before you arrive as the gate will have have to be opened for you and then there is a track drive to the main lodge and a further couple of kms to the guest lodges. "We were rather disappointed, the images from the website was obviously taken when the establishment first opened which was MANY years ago & it has deteriorated much since then e.g the Lapa on the water, we thought we would spend our new years there fishing, but there were no floor planks.The bedding in the room had stains on it, the roof was leaking so the one single bed was soaking.We love animals, but there was a huge dog & cat that were jumping on the table where were had a braai after having...

"The cleaning at this property is done superficially. They need to do a deep clean as there is dirt in the corners, smell from the sheets and blanket, dust on applicances and slime in the kettle. There was a service door to the bathroom which isn't itself a problem, but I could smell cigarette smoke coming through every so often in the morning."

"No TV in the room, when you staying over for the night and don't want to sit in the pub for the entire evening, TV would have been nice."
