The cave onsens, especially, were both gorgeous and healing… The other ones perhaps a bit rundown, but still quite a treat. The staff were great (and multi-lingual) and my room was squeaky clean. "The ryokan and the area surrounding it was absolutely beautiful. The staff are very kind and will take the time to assist as much as possible, even with the language barrier. Breakfast and dinner is included. A free shuttle is available for pickup/dropoff between 2 stations at certain times, inquire when making the reservations. The room with private bath is absolutely gorgeous. Would definitely visit again."

"Excellent service and very low key. I got up early in the morning and wanted a coffee. I went to the front desk and asked if they had coffee and a man directed me to a coffee making machine that was excellent. I wanted a second cup and needed change the man helped me out. Later I went to the morning service and come to find out the man helping was the reverend of the temple! Super nice! Morning service was excellent!"

"We had an amazing time at this hotel. We would return for sure. The outdoor onsen is beautiful and even thought there were other guests in the hotel, we were the only one using them, so it was quite relaxing. The staff members were so welcoming and friendly, the food was just impeccable. At breakfast time until we left, there was a pianist playing the piano. He was fabulous. We loved everything!! "

"We were surprised with the newly renovated hotel. The front desk staff was very friendly. When I told him we could not catch the next morning train back to Shin-Osaka with their regular shuttle service, he offered to help us to book taxi and printed out train schedule with platform on/off outlined. View from our corner room 456 was stunning. We booked fish dinner which was good, breakfast was a bit boring Japanese rice but they provide enough coffee for coffee addict ;-)"

"The hotel is at an excellent location although the decor is a bit dated. The room is big with a balcony overlooking the famous Shirahama beach. The hotel staff were the most helpful. The lady staff was in the phone with various parties to help us sort out our punctured tire on the day we checked out. Sorry I didn’t get her name but she was the only female staff there on the morning of 3 Nov 2023. Thank you so much!"

"The price was the best in the city, but this is no hotel as you can find somewhere else. Check-in and check-out was ok. There is no private shower, and with the rain, the ceiling was leaking. "It is a hotel more traditional than I expected. No regular chairs in the room, we sat on cushions on the floor and this took some getting used to. The water view is pretty and the bento breakfast and dinner were novel and interesting. Also traditional clothing is provided to all guests to wear to meals and move about the hotel property. Shoes off to enter restaurants. Interesting experience. Good base to visit some of the Kumano Kodo Taishas in Hongu, Shingu and Naichi."
